Which pitcher to pickup...[AWHIR]

Postby TruYankeeFan » Wed Mar 28, 2012 2:46 pm

ok...so need some help with which WW pitcher to pick up when Carpenter goes on the DL...

12 team h2h where the 5 categories for Pitching are: IP, SV, Ks, ERA, WHIP

Who do I pick up?
____________IP SV K ERA WHIP
Pitcher A: 203 0 188 4.48 1.38
Pitcher B: 200 0 159 4.36 1.23
Pitcher C: 196 0 129 3.61 1.28
Pitcher D: 189 0 161 4.26 1.40
Pitcher E: 220 0 111 3.68 1.29
Pitcher F: 174 0 181 3.63 1.33

EDITED:
I intentionally left the names off...as I do not want the "names" to skew the advice...I really wanted opinions based on the projections...not our feelings about a guy based on his name or his team...I realize this has its place...but I have my answer based on guys names...and I am not sure that it is the RIGHT answer when I look at the #s

My Roster:
C- Mike Napoli
1B - Prince Fielder
2B - Rickie Weeks
SS - Derek Jeter
3B - Arod
OF - Brett Gardner
OF - Melky Cabrera
OF - Peter Bourjols
UT - Yoenis Cespedes
BN - Carl Crawford
BN - Alfonso Soriano
BN - Kelly Johnson
BN - JD Martinez (he looks to be a HUGE sleeper in this scoring system)

SP - Clayton Kershaw
SP - Cole Hamels
RP - Brandon League
RP - John Axford
P - James Shields
P - Chris Carpenter
P - Henderson Alvarez
P - Phil Hughes
BN - Brett Myers

Best available bats are:
Mike Carp
Cain Lorenzo
Mike Trout
Justin Morneau
Zack Cozart
Eric Thames
Marco Scutaro

A couple things:

1) Last year's stats aren't the best thing to look at when deciding WW pick-ups.
2) I don't know what "AWHIR" means.
3) Please post the rest of your staff, including RPs.
4) You may even want to include your hitters, as there may be a gaping hole to fill.

These are avg projections from several sources for this year....not late years stats...

AWHIR means "always will help in return"

I left the names off on purpose...as I want opinion based on projections not names. Yes...I know names and history play a part...but I also think names can bias the answer. I will post names eventually...but I would like peoples opinions on the #'s as that is what you score...not peoples names.

Projections from who?
I would take F. I want a guy who has a K/9 of 9.

Those numbers I copied from Yahoo..as I thought it would be too confusing to post projections from everywhere...but it looks like yahoo took the best of Bill James and Rotochamp for these #s.

Interesting you chose F...as I only added him after doing my look through stats only...and ignoring names. He is the exact reason I am so F'n confused.

i don't like James and Rotochamps projections myself.
I think ZIPS does a nice job.
A doesn't make sense, so high a whip and era with that K/9?
Is A Gio?

F is the choice. Just looking at stats makes it nice because I don't have to give real considerations like who else is in their team's rotation, which park they pitch in, which division their team is in, how old the pitcher is, which way he is trending, or his past or future injury possibilities.

Interesting....no I wish Gio was an FA...lol...would have snagged him over Alvarez when I dropped Nova for sure.

Here are their stats in ZIPS...I will post who is who in a bit...wanna here your input based on ZIPS

BTW...holy crap is ZIPS pessimistic with their projections pretty much across the board.

________ IP SV K ERA WHIP
Pitcher A: 174 0 152 4.24 1.37
Pitcher B: 185 0 149 4.08 1.25
Pitcher C: 179 0 114 3.77 1.25
Pitcher D: 157 0 133 4.17 1.34
Pitcher E: 178 0 100 3.69 1.27
Pitcher F: 136 0 126 4.36 1.50

My point from before is you are presenting other peoples opinions to us and then saying pick one. You don't need us for that, you are already basing your choice on what someone else is predicting. Just pick the one that gives you the most points or PR or whatever for your league. As you can see your first set of numbers and second set don't match up at all.

If you want our opinions, tell us which guys you are considering and we can tell you what we think.
