Auction League strategy. Please Help! WHIR

Postby manmagoonbt » Tue Mar 27, 2012 6:09 pm

I am in a 15 team 5x5 roto auction league on Saturday. We are doing an in person draft. I was wondering if you would be willing to offer up your opinion on what I should spend on each position. I will gladly help with your post in return if you post a link

$260 budget, I have $16 in keepers for this year. I must a minimum of 2 RP. Please just copy in paste in fill in what you would budget for each position. I do realize that the strategy cannot be concrete and I have to adjust, but I do wanna go in with an idea of what to spend on each position.

Would love to help but honestly I don't think it would help very much. Prices are so fluid league to league and then you add keepers that are generally bargain prices and it would be hard to know what would be available to know what prices they might go for.

A good strategy would be to figure out what you think you will need in each category to win the league. Then go in the draft with a maybe a couple of key guys to get you to those numbers and try and get them without overpaying by too much.

Maybe someone else has more experience at this or another suggestion.

Yeah, it's tough to say in a league like this. Depends on who's available. I might try to nominate some of the worst closers early, see if I could get at least one bottom feeder closer for cheap (while everyone is waiting for the Riveras & Axfords), to free up some money for a big bat at 1b, which is always a nice foundation to have. (If there are any such 1b that aren't being kept.) I'd bid aggressively on 1b, 3b, and at least 1 of spot, mid-round money on a few starters.
