How high to bid on FA Sean Marshall? WHIR

Postby footballisbetter.com » Mon Mar 26, 2012 9:35 pm

Closers get gobbled up in this league. We drafted before the news of Madson being out, so Marshall wan't taken in our auction.

Our waiver wire process is a "silent auction". We have to place a silent bid on a player..whoever bids the highest gets the player. But we have to stay under our salary cap, and whatever we pay for free agents...we owe real money value into pot at end of season.

How big will Marshall be, should I max out my bid at $9? FYI...all closers are owned in this league.

Thanks for your help on mine... I wish I was more help, but I avoid auction leagues like the plague... However, I will say that I have liked Marshall for a while, and think he can be a very good closer in what should be a weak division, and on a team that I think might overachieve... And he seems to have gotten his HR/flyball tendencies somewhat under control the past couple of years. I guess it depends on lots of factors - how is your bullpen looking compared to competitors, how far under the cap are you, how much is $9 to you? What have other closers gone for, etc... But I feel pretty comfortable that Marshall is going to be a pretty decent closer.
Thank you to soty for hooking me up with another awesome sig!

I think Marshall will be very good in the closers roll...and with all the talk about him now...If other owners need closers at all...you can bet someone will bid high on him.

It would suck to punt saves if you don't have one...but you also don't wont to cripple your ability to make important moves during the season.

I guess it all depends on how confident you are on the rest of your team, and how many other owners might be as desperate (or almost so) as you for the "last" closer.

Little help on mine?

Depends on competitive you currently are on closers.

If your not competitive, I'd bid the max. Its usually hard to trade for one and I think Marshall will get about 80% of the opportunties. Since Marshall was going to be the LHP option out of the pen, I do see situations where Dusty might use him in the 8th if the opponent's tough left handed hitters are up that inning, and have someone else probably Massett, then close it in the 9th.

Please help with my question. Here is the link.

Bid max
He is probably better than your other 3 closers
Closers are easy to trade if you don't need 4

I bid my max, which was $9. However the Madson owner got him for $11.

sucks...

So then maybe you gamble on guys who should take the spot during the year....or are top setup men behind closers with injury questions...

Greg Holland will be the closer in KC by mid summer one way or the other. If Broxton is closing and doing a good job, they will trade him. If not...then he won't be the closer for long.

Brade Lidge/Tyler Clippard...last I heard Storens elbow was enflamed and they were shutting him down. They have not found structural damage...but that does not mean they won't in the future or that this is not the first sign of issues...and he just doe not pitch for a while and when he does is less effective.

Kerry Wood...Marmols Elbow is barking and he went for an MRI

Bid the max. I think he is going to grab the closer's role by the balls and not let go. He is really good.
