3rd Year Keeper League - How'd I Do?

Postby Knights » Mon Mar 26, 2012 12:18 pm

I just took over a keeper team entering the league's 3rd season, so this was my first draft in the league. My roster coming out of the draft is below. Please let me know what you think and what my biggest needs for improvement (and conversely, areas of strength) appear to be.

C - Jonathan Lucroy (Mil-C)
1B - Ike Davis (NYM-1B) (K)
2B - Dustin Pedroia (Bos-2B) (K)
3B - Brett Lawrie (Tor-3B) (K)
SS - Hanley Ramirez (Mia-SS) (K) also soon-to-be 3B-eligible
LF - Matt Joyce (TB-LF/RF)
CF - Chris Young (Ari-CF)
RF - Carlos Beltran (StL-RF) (K)
UTIL - Gaby Sanchez (Mia-1B)
BN - Alfonso Soriano (ChC-LF)
BN - Alex Presley (Pit-LF)
BN - Michael Brantley (Cle-LF/RF)

SP - James Shields (TB-SP)
SP - Matt Garza (ChC-SP)
SP - Jaime Garcia (StL-SP)
SP - Johnny Cueto (Cin-SP)
RP - Heath Bell (Mia-RP)
RP - Matt Thornton (CWS-RP)
P - David Robertson (NYY-RP)

Your rotation is solid. Nothin spectacular, but solid. Might need to look for some K's. I really like Niese this year (nose surgery. He can breathe better now and is in better shape. He was always complaining of losing his breath easily).

Lineup is pretty good. All 3 OF's could be better, I'm not a fan of any. I think Ike will put up some nice numbers this year, but you're lacking true pop. Everyone will get their share of Jacks, but now huge HR number potential besides Hanley and Ike. Its still a solid lineup though.

Overall the team is probably slightly above average in my opinion, but if guys perform and you make a couple moves you'll have a legit team.

I like Ike Davis, he was raking for me last year until he got hurt. Pitching staff is solid, but I would look for some cheap K's at the expense of ERA.

You're infield is stacked, your outfield is so so and your pitching staff has no one that really stands out but you have a bunch of pitchers are are above average and capable of having big season. If I were you I'd maybe package two of my pitchers (probably 2 of garza, garcia, cueto) for an upgrade at the same position. Go after someone like Lester maybe, that's just my opinion though, you may opt to stick with what you have which wouldn't really hurt either.
