I have 2 good closers (Dotel, Hoffman) and 3 question marks
(Rhodes, Nathan and Chacon) and was planning on dropping one of the question marks after the first month of the season to make room for another starter.
I have a guy that's willing to give me Javy Lopez for I-Rod and one of my closers. One of my strategies is to completely give up on winning stolen bases every week and concentrate on Runs, HRs, RBIs and Avg. Line-up is as follow in an 8 team 5x5.
C I-Rod
1B R Sexson
2B J Kent
3B H Blalock
SS A-Rod
OF G Sheffield
OF V Wells
OF G Anderson
Uti Lance Berkman
B D Ortiz
Javy fits the make-up of my team much better and I believe he will have a much better season this year than I-Rod. Also, making this trade will allow me to immediately picy up J Peavy now as my 7th starter (M Prior, R Oswalt, J Beckett, M Morris, J Contreras, J Piniero). I'm afraid if I wait a month, J Peavy will be gone.
There is no way, I'd trade Hoffman or Dotel. With that being said, I have 2 questions.
1) Would you do it?
2) If yes, which closer would you trade? (Rhodes, Nathan or Chacon)
Thanks for any opinions you might give. I've been racking my brain on this one for a week.
I would do it for I-Rod and Chacon. I don't value Chacon that much unless you are completely desperate for saves, which you are not. Basically then your trade would be I-Rod and Chacon for Javy Lopez and Peavy. This is a no brainer, go for it!
Dotel: I believe he will do well, but if he falters, Lidge is right there waiting in the wings. Not sure how much rope they will give Dotel. I'll repeat that I do believe he will be fine and have a good year though.
Hoffman: Pitching with a 40% tear in his rotator cuff. One bad pitch and he's out for the year. Not something I'd be comfortable with.
Rhodes: I agree he's a ?.
Nathan: Again, a ?.
Chacon: And another ?.
I'd hang on to all of them due to the amount of question marks they all have.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
Actually, I understand both your points of view. That's why I'm so torn. Let's say, I make the trade and one or more of my four remaining relievers goes down or can't cut it as a closer(which is quite possible). Then I'm down two relievers instead of just one. On the other hand, if it's Chacon that can't cut it or my other four relievers work out, then I just wasted a great opportunity to upgrade my offense.
I was just hoping somebody would give me a fresh perspective on this fantasy dilemma I'm having.
Would yo do this trade? NO Why? Because Ivan Rodriguez is better than Javy Lopez!
So why waste an extra CL to get a Catcher who isn't as good.
Thats just my opinion tho
Why would you trade IRod to get Javy? Maybe if he agreed to upgrade one of your closers (like getting Graves for Chacon), but otherwise, no way...
Plus, I think after a month, you will be pleasantly surprised by all three of your "question marks". More closers is always better. Don't get rid of one except for a very good deal or for another closer. That's a cardinal rule in yahoo leagues.
Personally I don't think Javy is going to have a much better year than Irod. But if I were you I'd pull the trigger on an Irod/Chacon for Javy deal in a second.
Obviously you have a plan, and you believe the Javy fits it better. You've already decided that you were going to drop one of the questionable closers anyway.
Without the trade, you're hoping to drop one your closers to get Peavy. With the trade, you basically get what you were hoping for to begin with, plus you swap Javy for Irod.
Stick to your plan, make the trade, and don't look back.
