Is Brett Lawrie the next Evan Longoria or the next Gordon Beckham...or frustratingly somewhere in between?
Some projections have him putting up insane, Pujols-like numbers (similar to when Alex Gordon first burst on the scene). But, we all get teased every now and then by the Chris Davis types. Just curious what the Cafe'ers have to say about Mr. Lawrie.
As a native Kansas Citian, I would love to believe in a 3B named Brett.
Well Chris Davis was a different kind of guy. His K rate was through the roof and the only thing he brought to the table was power. There were plenty of people who didn't believe in him (I was one).
As for what will Lawrie do? Who knows. He has a ton of talent, better than Beckham and way more than Davis. Odds are decent that he fails and we barely remember the hype a few years from now. Odds are also decent that he takes a step back this season and then bust out a few years from now as he learns to adjust. For every Pujols/Braun/Longoria there are dozens that bust or take more time than expected. I think he will be fine but I also thought Heyward was going to be fine last year.
I for one won't spend a high enough draft pick on him to have him in any league. Too much out there with better track records then to take a guy that had less than half a season in the majors.

Next Uggla is my guess. Highly inconsistent, good power numbers, but won't ever polish his all-around game enough to be considered elite. Yes I realize Uggla plays 2B, but that's the best comparison from a fantasy production aspect I can think of.
I'd compare him more to David Wright, not Longoria(Wright has more SB's). Should be a 20-20 guy maybe 30-30 for one or two seasons. Could also completely flame out or take years like Gordon did.
1st year dynasty league draft I did, he went in the 3rd round! Ahead of Zimmerman, Beltre, Wright, Panda...
If I owned him anywhere I'd try to cash in on the hype as much as possible just in case the shine wears off quickly.
