Gallardo for 31 is a bit expensive...the fact that he is as expensive as McCutchen, Holliday, and Morse is a little odd.
What is the dollar amount you have to work with? I don't want to hamstring you when it comes to the auction.
What is the scoring like? Are pitchers more important (and is that why hitters are so little and Gallardo is ridiculous?) Some more context would help.

$260 auction start minus keeper salaries. McCutchen was a minor leaguer I'd drafted a few years ago so I got him for $5 (extended him for 2 more years), Holliday was a mid-season pickup when he came over from the AL so his salary defaulted to $10 (extended 1 year), and Morse was my steal of the draft last year, last player picked overall for $1. I do a lot of homework! I generally tend to keep cheaper guys going into the draft so I can over spend on someone like Gallardo at the draft. I got him last year after Lee and Halladay came off the board in the $38-$40 range.
I won the league last year and can only keep 10, who are the best values:
B. Posey 5 W. Ramos 1 P. Goldschmidt 5 I. Desmond 1 R. Braun 20 A. McCutchen 15 A. Ethier 20 M. Morse 1 M. Holliday 15
J. Chacin 6 D. Hudson 14 Y. Gallardo 31 J. Axford 10 J. Hanrahan 10
Help ... WHIR
That is 126 dollars if my math is correct. I think you have to keep Gallardo. If you don't want to keep his expensive price tag then take a chance on Chacin at 6 bucks.
Well, it might help if I tell you guys that you should definitely not keep.
Ethier for 20 is silly. So, no to him. I'd be tempted to save 4 bucks by keeping Ramos over Posey, but I don't think it's worth it. I'd rather pay the 5 for Posey, so no to Ramos.
Then I think the last slot I'd be willing to use on offense should do to Ian Desmond and not Goldschmidt, but that's just me. Here is a case where I would rather save the 4 dollars. Desmond is a good combo source of power/speed, although his batting average is atrocious, although you can usually afford to have 1-2 guys like that on your team.
So, I have you keeping 6 hitters it seems.
For the pitching, I guess you should keep Gallardo. It depends on what the other guys do--will you be able to find out? If people are throwing pitchers back in, it might be best to save the 31 and go big for one of the Phillies/Braves/Giants guys.
I think I'd keep Axford for 10--but not Hanrahan.
And then I'd only keep one of Chacin and Hudson, and end up only keeping 9. Are you allowed to only keep 9?
