Just joined my office league. It's a 10-teamer but a very unique one. In light of the unique stat categories below, how did I do? I am not wedded to Kelly Johnson and will gladly drop him for a player at a position/stat skill I could use.
10 Team H2H Daily with 4 Keepers for 3 seasons max (this was a redraft year) Hitting Categories: R, H, HR, RBI, BB, K, GIDP, A, FPCT, AVG, OPS, NSB Pitching Categories: IP, W, L, R, BB, K, HLD, TB, ERA, WHIP, K/BB, NSV
MY TEAM
C Carlos Santana 1B Joey Votto 2B Dan Uggla 3B Brett Lawrie SS Asdrubel Cabrera LF Alex Gordon CF B.J. Upton RF Shin-Soo Choo UT David Ortiz BN Kendrys Morales (1B/OF) BN Kelly Johnson (2B)
SP Clayton Kershaw SP CC Sabathia RP JJ Putz RP Sergio Santos P Yovani Gallardo P Sergio Romo P Greg Holland BN Anibal Sanchez BN Max Scherzer BN Johan Santana
What say you? Happy to dump KJ or Santana. Just bear in mind the roster limitations and weird cats (my other league I post about a lot has 3 utility slots whereas this one has 1).
Available Hitters:
Peter Bourjos Coco Crisp Erick Aybar Jason Kipnis Dexter Fowler Alex Rios Torii Hunter Mike Moustakas Edwin Jackson Matt Joyce Chase Utley Austin Jackson Brennan Boesch Carlos Pena....
Available Pitchers (SP and RP)
Jaime Garcia Johnny Cueto Jeremy Hellickson Chris Perez Clay Buccholz Jair Jurrjens Jhoulys Chacin Vance Worley Colby Lewis Wandy Rodriguez Brandon McCarthy Edwin Jackson Bud Norris Alexi Ogando.....
Honestly I have never played in a league with so many cats, so I don't know how to judge specifcally for that.
But just based on the standard of choosing the "best" players, and my personal opinion:
You went with picks 1 & 2 for Votto/Kershaw. Seems strange. What pick did you have? 9th?
I am not an Uggla believer, and I think Santana is an interesting pickup, since I imagine he came about round 5-6? I like posey 6 rounds latter better.
Ortiz is scary to me. He is so hot and cold, he could hurt you when he has his bad weeks. Plus it's tough when your util can't fill in for anyone else on mon/thursdays or for injuries.
Not a bad team, just wanted to point out some of the things I noticed. Hope you weren't just looking for "awesome job," if you were I can edit my post haha!

Always like good advice, so much appreciated. I drafted 6th out of 10. But I noticed how important it is to have a few stud SPs since a fair amount of the staff must be devoted to RPs to keep certain things like walks, runs and such down. I have no idea why I grabbed KJ at the end. Maybe just as insurance at 2B for lack of a better multi position candidate.
Thanks for the additional info. How did you do draft, offline, ESPN, yahoo? I love Kershaw, I have him targeted. And Cano had to have been available to take 6th. I think that would have been my choice bc 2b sucks this year.

The major decision I faced in round 1 was whether to take Votto, Bautista, Cano or AGonz. I know many would say Bautista there but I liked Votto's high average, walk totals and he makes for a nice keeper. I was actually VERY tempted to take Cano... I just sort of salivated over the prospect of Kershaw and CC because the guy in my office who has had success in this league (my first year in this league. I do my own league with more traditional stats, though 9x9 lol). Anyway, this guy who had success said it's key to have some lockdown SP studs.
What do you think of Aybar over Kelly Johnson? About half the strikeouts of Bourjos or Hunter. And about 400+ assists vs. a handful from those guys. Maybe I throw him into utility when i don't need HR/RBI but need assists, sb, etc.
I gambled on Johan. They say he looks great in ST. Thoughts?
OH, and this was a live Yahoo! online draft.

By the way, there is a guy in my office who LOVES Kershaw. He has Halladay and Miguel Cabrera. I have Kershaw and Votto. Worth trying to swap the two? Or hang onto Kershaw?
