OK, so i will start with league settings and Auction pricing so you can get a good grasp. I am looking for advice with reason if possible, not just "keep these guys and your good" This is a 12 team league with 2 divisions.
The league is 12 catergories 6x6 Hitting = Ave, BB, HR, R, SB, RBI's Pitching = ERA, WHIP, K's, Wins, Saves, Quality Starts
We are in a weekly league so you can not change your roster mid-week Batting we start = 1b, 2b, 3b, SS, C, OF, OF, OF, EH Pithing we start = SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P
At the Auction Draft each team is given $270 - Keeper value. we have to fill 24 roster spots in the draft. I am Allowed to keep 5 players, this is my team from last year that got bounced in the 1st round of playoffs to a HOT team. Please help me choose 5 keepers, and i will let you know what i am currently thinking by putting a K next to the players Value. I check this often, and i promise to offer advice in return with reason if you try to help me as well. Thanks
1b - Joey Votto - 37 (k) 1b - Adrian Gonzalez - 28 (k) of - Shin-Soo Choo - 25 SP - Clayton Kershaw - 23 (k) 2b - Rickie Weeks - 8 SP - Phil Hughes - 14 2b/3b - Martin Prado - 8 3b - Kevin Youkilis - 37 of - Jay Bruce - 25 of - Jacoby Ellsbury - 25 (k) of - Mike (Giancarlo) Stanton - 22 ss - Alexei Ramirez - 21 sp - Max Scherzer - 16 sp - Jeremy Helickson - 8 rp - John Axford - 6 rp - Jose Valverde - 6 3b - Brett Lawrie - 5 (k) C - Russell Martin - 5 C - Yadier Molina - 5 sp - Erik Bedard - 5 sp - Mark Buehrle - 5 sp - Derek Holland - 5 rp - Jonny Venters - 5 rp - Jordan Walden - 5
My keeper cost would total $118 and leave me with $152 for the draft.
I like your choices, but I would consider dropping votto and taking weeks instead. I think votto is overpriced and weeks is underpriced. Plus you already have a 1b as a keeper and filling your 2B spot could be hard. Kershaw, Ellsbury, Gonzo, and Lawrie are all good deals at those prices.
Also I don't care for your 6x6, I'd switch out AVG and BB for just OBP, and I'd use only Wins or QS.
so according to Average price payed for these players
Rickie weeks is going for $12 in auctions drafts for yahoo Stanton is going for $29 Votto is going for $45
with walks in the league as a stat and .Ave i know that Votto bats over 300 and walks alot more then both those players which was why i choose him. Currently Stanton hasnt hit over 265 and he does not walk, he has a ton of potential but not proven talent so i was a little afraid to take the flier on him. Weeks is injured quite a bit and i would only be saving $4 dollars
As for the person that suggested i not take kershaw... ?? why would i not take the Cy Young winner for $23? His average price in drafts is $36, do you think he is going to regress badly? is there something i dont know going on with him?
It is definitely a difficult decision, you're right. It seems you put a lot of thought into it. For me it's either a $22 Stanton or a $37 Votto. If you'll pay the extra 15 for the AVG and walks, then go for it. I see nothing wrong with that. Just wanted to make sure you really gave Stanton a chance.
The five you chose are probably the best options then.

I feel good about the options i choose, but i want to make sure that my thinking is proper, as im tired of losing in the playoffs.. I have placed 2 in the league standings 2 years in a row, and then lost first round of playoffs both years. I want this year to be my year, and next year votto will be 41 and i will have to drop him at that price and gonz will go up to 32 and kershaw will be 27.. so my players get more expensive the longer i keep them, i just want to make sure that i am using the correct logic.
Votto is going for $33 overall average on ESPN. How the heck does it get to $45 on Yahoo? Huge difference, even if Yahoo's avg is only for 12 man and ESPN is for all draft types.
I still don't think you should keep votto, but if you're confident in your league he should get around $45, then just sell him to someone else to keep. Easy money.
