1st time doing this league, splitting team with a friend who wanted some help b\c he's never done fantasy baseball. Ive always done roto leagues.
This is a 10 team, H2H league, that starts the following positions: c 1B 2B 3B SS 3 OF's U and ONLY 1 PITCHING STAFF!!!!
You select one Team to be your pitching staff. Obviously Phillies, Giants are top staffs.
My question is where do I decide to take a pitching staff? Does this devalue pitching, b\c u only start 1 staff??? Or does this make the phillies a POWER HOUSE since u r getting, doc/lee/hamels. Is it a big drop off to wait and take say a team like detroit, or the angels.
What would you recommend. Im leaning towards jumping on the phillies, since theres only 9 hitting spots, with 10 teams only, think I could b fine with filling out my lineup, and then having a dominant staff.
Thanks for any advice Here is the scoring in this league: Hitters Single = 1 Double = 2 Triple = 3 Home Run = 4 Run = 1 RBI = 1 Walk = 1 Stolen Base = 2 Caught Stealing = -1
Wow...yeah, great question as to where to draft the staff.
Personally, I'd let someone else reach high for the Phils and Giants. There are several really really good staffs and in a 10-team league, I think you can be somewhat selective (though, watch the flow of the draft and if there's a major run on staffs you might have to just go for it).
There will be several "under the radar" staffs out there that might fall to you. ATL, LAA, WAS, etc. I'd shoot for elite batters at premium positions first.
I would wait on a staff too. Even though the Phillies and Giants have great staffs, wins will be less than a lot of other teams due to their offenses (Phillies are hurt and Giants are weak). With only 10 teams, there should be enough to go around.
I too would wait and get some marquee position players, then go get a "second tier" staff like LAA, ATL, or WAS. MIL has some talent, as does TEX and ARI.
I wouldn't worry about drafting a pitching staff at all. Fill up on big bats and leave the pitching until the very end.
One idea would be to shuffle your staff around each week based on matchups. Pay attention to which teams are playing crappy offenses during a week (like the Astros as one example), then pick that staff off the WW and plug them in for a week.

That's a pretty neat setting. What website is this on?
Anyways, it is kind of difficult to project on when to draft the rotations, since it's very uncommon. One rotation that I've noticed that no one has mentioned yet is Tampa. It's gotta be the best 1-5 rotation in the majors.
