Pick 12 in 16 team keeper league (WHIR)

I'm in a 16 team 5x5 roto league. We keep 3 players and players kept cost round originally drafted and then they lose 3 rounds each year after that until they can't be kept.

We start C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 4 OF, Utility, and 8 Pitchers (Can be all SP or all RP or any mix).

My keepers are J. Upton (2), M. Kemp (3), and Votto (7).

I curious how to play my early picks, pick 12 in round 1, as well as Round 4-6. If a top SP is available would I be crazy to take him in Round 1? Every year 3-5 teams focus on hitting and just draft RP's for their pitching staff, so SP tends to hang around.

I assume that at least 8 of the first 11 picks will be position players. That leaves me to choose from Tex, Uggla and Pence or an SP. If I take an SP, I assume I just focus on bats after that? Which SP's would you take in the 1st round in my position? Which batters if they fall?

Tex or Kershaw/Halladay/Verlander would be my pick. Not a fan of Uggla/Pence with those guys on the board.

Beltre
Hamilton
Tex
Halladay
Kershaw
Verlander
Uggla
Cruz
Pence

If any of the guys above Tex fall, it's a no brainer. otherwise, while I prefer to take a bat over an arm, if either of those 3 fall, I like them better then Uggla, Cruz, & Pence.
