My league has 7 RP spots. Use for extra SPs? WHIR

Postby ron paul for pres » Sun Mar 18, 2012 4:28 pm

My league is set up to look like an actual team. One starter for each position, four bench spots, 5 SPs and 7 RPs. I really don't get the point of having all of those RPs. Should I leave those spaces open and try to load up on some more SPs? My lineup is pretty solid, but my SP could use some help. Available SPs include Worley, Nova, Buehrle, and Johan Santana.

Scoring is H2H, 5x5.

Team:

C - Soto
1B - Miguel Cabrera
2B - Kinsler
SS - Asdrubal Cabrera
3B - ARod
OF - Jay Bruce
OF - Josh Hamilton
OF - Carlos Beltran
DH - Johnny Damon
BN - Prince Fielder (Seems nuts, I know. Waiting for Miggy to gain 3B eligibility, then ARod goes to the bench unless either of the three get DH eligibility.)
BN - Alexei Ramirez
BN - Logan Morrioson
BN - Mark Reynolds

SP - Tommy Hanson
SP - Anibal Sanchez
SP - Tim Stauffer
SP - Ryan Dempster
SP - Jhoulys Chacin
RP - Drew Storen
RP - JJ Putz
RP - Grant Balfour
RP - Koji Uehara
RP - Mark Melancon
RP -
RP -

extra starters already taking RP spots:
Andy Pettitte and Roy Oswalt (but no telling when either of them will pitch)

If you can use those spots for starters, then I would. I like them in this order: Buehrle, Santana, Nova, Worley. Are you required to have 7 RP? I guess I don't understand why you say the league is setup like an actual team if you can have as many starters as you want.

I should clarify. I would be leaving RP spots open and then add extra SPs to bench spots. Then I would rotate them into SP positions as needed.

Ok I see. The RP are starting spots. I would still take a flyer on some starters as long as you don't have any limits on SP like innings or starts. Odds are you will have some injuries to deal with so you should have some backup starters for that. Keep an eye on the WW though for any RP that might come along. Every year there are surprise RP that have excellent seasons so if you see something don't hesitate to grab one.

Find guys like Sale, Bard, Chapman, etc... that will qualify at RP but will actually be starters.
