Better 3-yr Keeper: Pujols or Braun

Postby medium_robin » Sat Mar 17, 2012 8:33 pm

Draft tomorrow and I have the 3rd pick. 9-team roto keeper league, 7x7 adding OPS and K's for hitters, L's and HR for pitchers.

We can keep players for a max of 3 seasons. I think that Pujols and Braun are my worst case guys at the 3rd pick. Who's better for the next 3 seasons?

Also, does my current OF-heavy keeper list (J. Upton, Ellsbury, McCutchen, Stanton, D. Jennings w/Beltre, Hosmer and Lawrie) affect my rankings at all?

I like Braun more for this year, gap should only widen in future years.

I like Braun, but since you got 5 OF already, Pujols is fine.

Better 3-yr Keeper: Pujols or Braun

See, that's my issue. In a 9-team league, there is no position scarcity. So that means there's no reason to bump up guys like Tulo or Cano. I should go with best player available. To me, besides Cabrera, Braun is best available.

The only problem having so many OF and 3B on my keeper list is that I feel like it limits some sleepers on the draft. If ARod (now healthy?) or Youk (same) fall, or if I want to take a flier on Coco Crisp or Angel Pagan later, I'd have no where to put them.

Take Braun and sell high on high on Ellsbury to upgrade a different position.

Braun here as well. In a 9 team league and that kind of OF keepers, not sure I would keep Jennings unless that is the best you have. In such a shallow league, I think he is replaceable right now and not really worth a keeper spot.

Better 3-yr Keeper: Pujols or Braun

Jennings, Stanton and Lawrie are actually prospects. We actually only keep 5 with 3 prospects. I just tried to keep my post simple and generalized.

A surprising amount of support for Braun. Any worries about rolling with Hosmer at 1B for a full season? I might have a shot at Tex in Rd 2. If I miss on him, there won't be another top 10 1B available.

Braun over Pujols.

As far as Hosmer, he won't outproduce Tex this year, and maybe not even next year and since this is only a 3 year keeper I can see the attraction of Tex. But I like Hosmer alot and would not be afraid to go in a different direction in the draft and take someone instead of Tex and roll with Hosmer at 1B

Pujols is better for your team today but Braun is the better keeper for the next 3 years. So it really boils down to which is your biggest concern. Running with Hosmer and having a glutton of OF but having the best keepers you can have or spreading your roster depth out for this season but taking a slight hit over the next 3 years with keepers.

I would probably scrap caring about the next 3 years and take the player that will help you the most know which is Pujols. Unless you think you can deal one of your OF for a 1B later.

Lastly, guys like Tulo and Cano aren't ranked as high as they are because of position scarcity. Tulo would be drafted about this high no matter what position he plays.
