Keeper ? - Greinke, Wilson, Pineda, Romero, Shields

Postby jjrup » Sat Mar 17, 2012 2:59 pm

Keeper question...10 team H2H points. Wins get you 10, K's get you 2 points, and IP get 1. Ls get -5, hits, walks and ER get -.5. Limit 10 starts a week for pitchers. As you can imagine if you've ever played in a points league, K's are king. I'm big into value keepers. I can keep 3 of the following guys:
Greinke (7th)
Romero (12th)
Shields (13th)....this will require a trade for Braun (1st) which I am cool doing bc of the quality of players available
Wilson (15th)
Pineda (20th)

will definitely help in return.
Thanks

Pineda's move to the spotlight and the AL East is not a good thing. I'd ditch him and Shields.

Romero's proved he can pitch in the East, and can only get better.

Greinke, Wilson and Romero. I don't trust Shields enough to trade Braun for him no matter whether you are keeping Braun or not. I also don't like Pineda. The decrease in velocity is worrying which just adds to the many question marks that he has this season. The 20th round is great but I would rather have someone a little more solid.

I agree with MaudDib. I think Pineda is going to be in for some trouble in the East. He also walks too many for my liking. My guess is he will gie up a bunch or two and three run hrs in Yankee stadium.

I do like Shields at 13th, but I'm not sure it's worth Braun.

I'd definitely keep Greinke and Wilson. Pineda while giving up a 20th round might actually be worth it, even if there's no way he repeats. If he starts strong, he might have value due to increased w/ potential. Romero is worth a look too, but he's also in the AL East - so I'd probably rather give up a 20th round pick rather than a 12th round pick. Shields over both of those guys, but can you really get Pujols, Tulo, or CarGo with your first rounder?

Good points. I have the 9th pick overall but due to projected keepers I'm going to get the 3rd and 5th overall pick.
The top players with projected points (assuming I don't keep Braun) are:
Kershaw - 658 pts. (that's conservative since he had high 700s last year)
Braun - 619
Fielder - 598
Felix - 592
Votto - 591
Lince - 581
And others with positional scarcity include CarGo, Longo, Kinsler, HanRam. Most guys keep top three round players and I usually go the opposite, with success. Because the league is so small, there is a nice talent pool.

I would take Wilson, Romero and Greinke. I believe that Shields will regress and Pineda will have a rough first go; leaving Romero with more points than either.
Then you can ignore Shields, keep Braun and shoot for Longoria with the 9th pick.

I like Greinke and think Pineda will be fine. But I am not sold on Shields repeating. I do like Romero.
