Tweet from Mike Siano:

#Royals announce MRI reveals Salvador Perez suffered left lateral meniscus tear that requires surgical procedure. No timetable for return.

Timetable is usually 6-8 weeks. Plenty of players have come back much quicker than that but for a catcher you almost have to assume the full 2 months.

Yeah it's pretty minor. I think Manny came back from it in like a week or two or something ridiculous. Then again, steroids help the healing process. Still bad for a catcher though. I had the same thing a while back and it still bothers me if I catch more than once a week. And of course I'm in peak physical condition.

Damn. :-t

He was one of my sleepers, being in a deep 15 team (2 start Catcher league) Might still draft him, for cheap in an auction....and ride it out.

Matthew Pouliot tweeted this yesterday:

"My initial guess is that Salvador Perez misses first 3 weeks after knee surgery. Loses 50 AB and goes from $6 to $5 in AL-only."

After subtracting 50 AB from my projections, I have Perez ranked as the 24th best catcher. I have him reaching 41R, 45RBI, 7HR, 2SB, and a .280 AVG. Based on my projections, he's still the 7th most valuable catcher in the batting average category.

Considering you can DL him and pick up a replacement for the early part of the season, I see no reason to not target him if this injury is this minor. Especially since news like this should cause him to drop a few rounds (he went in the 14th round in our 16 team cafeholics n00bs league).

He was nothing but a low grade 2nd C to me before this, I'd just avoid him completely at this point.
