Snake or Auction

Postby jefferey13 » Tue Mar 13, 2012 6:11 pm

This is my first year as a commissioner and am starting an ESPN 10 man 5x5 with only a few changes from the standard rules. It is a keeper league and we will be having 6 keeprs.

I have been league champ in years past but wanted to put together a more committed and close knit group to start a dynasty league so I have started my own. Some of the people playing are brand new to fantasy and a couple are new to fantasy baseball.

I would appreciate any feedback that I can pass on to the other newer members to argue one way or the other. I think most new players would just say snake because that's closer to how drafts work in real sports and then overlook how fun an auction can be.

Generally speaking, I'd say snake until the league gets on its feet then straight.

auction might be a little much for people new to fantasy. i'd stick with snake to let them get a feel for the game before possibly switching in later years.

I agree with snake, but I also think Dynasty is bit much for new players to the game. Do maybe five keepers in year two just to let the guys learn how things work. You can start Dynasty in year three.

Thanks for the input guys. I really want to do an auction so I can ensure I get my favorite players (kemp and kershaw) because I watch around 100+ dodger games a year, and it just makes my season that much better. But after three unanimous votes, I will do a snake draft for the league (hopefully I get pick 3 or 4).

I have hopes of a dynasty league coming about, but for now we will keep a lower amount or players. Everyone playing does want some keepers. Since we are using espn we have a simple 3 year keeper rule. Maybe if people get real competitive we can move to a host where we can use something like salaries and increased keeper pay, differing draft picks for keepers etc. By the way, is CBS kinda where everyone goes for that?

CBS would definately have what you want but they cost $150 a league. = If you are doing a Snake Draft you could use ESPN. You could keep the contract years of the Keepers on a spreadsheet. It would not be much work and would save each Owner about $10 a year. I use CBS and think it is great. It is just up to your league.

Auction is ALOT more fun than snake, but that rule set is alot ot handle for first time players.
