3b... Yikes! WHIR 100%

Postby billycent » Tue Mar 13, 2012 8:34 am

Missed out on the elite options and planned on grabbing Youk a little later but somebody reached way early for him, soo... I kind of punted the position in the draft. Looking into some low cost trades (possibly M. Young) but we'll see. I drafted Alvarez late for his upside but who knows if anything comes of that. I then grabbed T. Wigg since he should see quite a bit of playing time at least early on. I've also been monitoring Morel who's still a FA and he's been hitting well this spring. Does anybody see him as being a better option than either of the previously mentioned to start the year? Leave a link and I got u back.

Morel is not sexy, but he at least has a trace of upside to make a difference. Wigginton has none and, as his career has gone, tends to be good in spots but is ultimately sub-par. Roll with Morel over Wigginton and hope that one of him and Alvarez saves you.

I guess I'd go with Morel, although I think Alvarez is going to outproduce him anyway. Anything is better than TyWigg though.

What I'm even more curious about though is what you consider "reaching" for Youk? Like...3rd round reach? Because I'm ok with Youk going off the board starting around Rounds 5 or 6. People have him WAY too undervalued this year.

I did the same thing in one of my drafts, and I went with Morel, C.Da\/is. I'd take Morel o\/er Wigginton. He's doing well this spring, and he hit 8HRs in September of last year

I guess I have to say Morel first, but I like Wiggington better than some of the others here. He'll give you 17-20 HR, probably 75 rbi, and is almost certainly going to start for the first half of the season while Howard gets back to health (all these folks drafting Howard are delusional. The guy misses at least the first third or half of the season, and he's not that good even when he does play.)

I would say Morel too, but another youngster who has had a great camp and only Casey Blake blocking him, is Nolan Arenado (COL) heard that the ball is just popping off of his Bat this spring.

I actually like the idea of trading for Young if you can - he should be cheap though if you can do it. Wigginton probably isn't a good bet, b/c even though he'll play, he'll be benched enough times for players like Thome, Mayberry, Polanco etc at 1b/3b that I'd rather go with a Morel-ish player.

Yeah, I already added Morel. He was hot at the end of last season and so far it's carried over into a solid spring (although not much power to speak of) I figure if he can give me avg. and chip in w/the occassional hr or sb... the rest of my bats should be able to pick up the slack. I like Wiggs, but I agree w/an above post that he will get benched often enough that I don't feel like checking his status before every single game. Roll the dice w/Morel and hope to be pleasantly surprised I guess. And yes, we're talking end of 4th rd reached for Youk... way to early for my blood. thnx to all who've responded.
