We are in the 3rd round of our draft...we keep 10 players each so 115-120 off the board when we start.
I kept Votto in the 1st, drafted Pedroia in the 2nd...now I'm leaning toward getting an ace. The best hitters available are McCann/Mauer (too early), Rollins (seems like a reach), Wright (have Lawrie), Crawford (seems early), Victorino (ditto), Pence (wouldn't mind him in about 8 picks).
SP are Hamels, Greinke, Haren, Price, Gallardo, and Lester.
I'm debating Greinke, Hamels, and potentially Gallardo (though he is a distant distant 3rd). Seems all the sabermetric projection systems love Greinke more than Hamels and he had a great year last year, but the Brewers defense? Terrible. Also a FA at the end of the year so there is added motivation. Hamels was great himself last year, but he always seems to get dinged up and miss starts...couple of cleanup surgeries in offseason. Are the ridiculous HR rate and GB rate sustainable? Contract questions with Cole too. Gallardo, great year, but is the WHIP real? Thoughts?
My next pick is 8 away and then I'm off for 16 picks...may go another SP if one of above is still there, go Rollins and move Bonifacio to OF4, or hope for Pence, maybe Crawford. Agree with SP route if Haren, Lester, or one of the others is still there? I don't think I can pull the trigger on Cain, Darvish, or Josh Johnson there, though I'd be lucky to end up with Garza 16 picks after this one...
Current Lineup C: -- 1B: Votto 2B: Pedroia SS: Bonifacio at this point 3B: Lawrie OF: Stanton OF: Cruz OF: -- OF: -- DH: Hosmer
SP: -- SP: Wainwright SP: M. Moore SP: -- P: Luebke RP: Storen RP: --
I like Gallardo of the three pitchers. He has improved each each year and seems ready to move into a bona fide ace.
I am not sold on Pence repeating some of those numbers from last year. He has never really been a .300 hitter before and he is no longer a double digit steals guy. He is a solid play but I would rather have an Ace pitcher than a OF that I could find similar numbers from later in the draft.

So I went Hamels, Greinke went next pick...and all the others fell (Price, Gallardo, Haren, Lester) This league LOVES pitching.
My pick now and I don't pick again for 15 picks. Best available at positions of need that I'm considering: C: McCann, Wieters (too early in my opinion for either, but they both may be gone by next pick...after these guys is Russel Martin, though I like Salvador Perez as a possible position filler) SS: Rollins (feels like a reach, but Jeter is the next in line) OF: Pence, Crawford, Bruce (I'm intrigued by either of these 3 guys...Victorino, Choo, Ichiro, C. Young, A. Jones next in line) SP: Cain, Garza (seems like a stretch, but there will be a lot of SP off the board by next go round...Josh Johnson, Hanson, Darvish, Scherzer, Ubaldo, Carp, Wandy, Jaime next in line)
Also, David Wright is available, but my plan was to roll with Lawrie.
Here is a glimpse at the starts of other staffs: 1) SABATHIA, HELLICKSON (will probably go SP) 2) VERLANDER, STRAS, CAHILL (may go SP) 3) LINCECUM, BUM, PINEDA (he will go SP next pick still) 4) BECKETT, LATOS (will go SP next pick) 5) SHIELDS, ZIMMERMANN (will go SP next pick or 2) 6) KERSHAW, HAREN, ROMERO, ERVIN 7) WEAVER, GREINKE, MARCUM 8) FELIX, PRICE, WILSON (will probably go 1 SP before me) 9) HALLADAY, LEE, KENNEDY, WORLEY 10) GALLARDO, D. HUDSON, MORROW 11) LESTER, GIO, T. HUDSON (will probably go SP)
I see potentially 7 or 8 SP gone by next pick. If I take SP it opens up my next pick for SS (Rollins gone so I'll ignore), C (McCann/Wieters gone so I'll ignore), OF (probably C. Young or Ichiro around and that isn't great either).
If I go any other position, I have to take SP next go-round.
This is mainly to get my thoughts in line, but thoughts on OF or where you'd go? I've never been a Pence guy and I'm intrigued by Crawford given what else is left...Bruce, pretty inconsistent, but potential. The "KO-BB" category is a killer with him.
