Travis D'Arnaud - is he blocked?

Postby Sticky Spice » Mon Mar 12, 2012 9:18 pm

Hey guys,

I like to farm draft hitters that are likely to get the call during the current season. Even if D'Arnaud proves he's ready for his shot, will there be room for him this year?

Arencibia is solid but I wouldn't consider him a guy to worry about, it seems like D'Arnaud is a much better all round catcher.

At best you get a platoon imo.

That's what I'm thinking. If he gets called up, the best case scenario is probably that he only gets a platoon role with Arencibia. In other words, the juice ain't worth the squeeze. It's just so hard to find a hitter that should be called up this season. Seems like most of the top prospects are either pitchers or hitters that are still in their teens. The only other hitter I could come up with was Arenado.

I didn't know if there was a chance D'Arnaud or JP could get DH at bats thus bumping Encarnacion or something.

I think the long term answer is JP @ DH, and d'Arnaud as there primary catcher. OR Arencibia gets dealt, however the later is highly unlikely, they like him too mutch.

I'm betting that once D'Arnaud is ready in 2013 JPA will be traded. It would make no sense for the Jays to keep both of them for the long term. Mid-late 2012 you could see a platoon. It would take an injury to Lind/EE for a solid amount of DH AB's to become available this year. I don't see JPA being a long term solution at DH unless he greatly improves his walk rate.
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!
