Need ROTO Pitcher strategy

Need ROTO Pitcher strategy

Postby holzmacher11934 » Mon Mar 12, 2012 1:02 pm

Complicated but here goes. I'm in a 7X7 fantasy league, but my question is on the
pitching side. The categories are Innings Pitched, Wins, K's, Earned Runs, WHIP,
Saves, Holds. There is a requirement that you have to start 5 SP and 4 RP. You
also can't have more then 10 starts per week. So there is a max of 70 roto points
to gain. How can I go about gaining the most points, I need a strategy. I'm not
sure if I should punt a category, just unsure. Please advise how you would try
to gain the most points. Thanks for your time.

Hey man,

The two main categories I concentrate on K and WHIP. Basically what this does is produce pitchers who miss bats, don't walk much, and give up few hits. With that scenario, ERA and wins follow suit. As you have probably read, ERA tends to fluctuate and do NOT chase wins. You can mitigate this by then placing emphasis on the IP category. The 5 SP/ 4 RP requirement will probably keep IP close. But by focusing on SPs that go deeper in games, it is more likely that they will win (with higher IP as a bonus). I go cheap as possible with Saves, as it is more job security than nastiest numbers. With Holds, I'd take an elite option that will rack up the Holds and could potentially move into closer role if someone gets hurt, just don't spend too much here.

Hope that helps a little.

Don't punt a category unless the draft almost forces you too. These scoring settings increase the value of the top Sp's. Draft RP's a litlle later than usual. Due to the volatility of the position, you will be able to find good options later in the draft and during the season, especially with Holds guys.
