We're currently in the fourth round of our draft and I'm due up in about four picks. It's a standard 5X5 roto keeper league, and everyone is allowed 16 keeper slots. Needless to say, the pickings are extremely slim. I posted a few weeks ago about which outfielder to take, and luckily I had four of them fall into my lap. Here's what my roster looks like at the moment:
C: Matt Wieters (BAL) C: Alex Avila (DET) 1B: Prince Fielder (DET) 2B: Jason Kipnis (CLE) 3B: SS: Asdrubal Cabrera (CLE) 2B/SS: 1B/3B: OF: Curtis Granderson (NYY) OF: Corey Hart (MIL) OF: Dexter Fowler (COL) OF: Josh Willingham (MIN) OF: Matt Joyce (TB) OF: Jose Tabata (PIT) UTIL: Jesus Montero (SEA)
SP: Jered Weaver (LAA) SP: Adam Wainwright (STL) SP: Ian Kennedy (ARI) SP: Yu Darvish (TEX) SP: Shaun Marcum (MIL) SP: Chris Carpenter (STL) RP: Ryan Madson (CIN) RP: RP: RP: BENCH: Zach Britton (BAL)
And I'm currently deciding between the following guys for my next pick (in no order):
Jose Altuve (HOU) Daniel Murphy (NYM) Jim Johnson (BAL) Sean Rodriguez (TB) Stephen Drew (ARI) Chipper Jones (ATL) Kurt Suzuki (OAK) Mat Gamel (MIL) Clay Buchholz (BOS) Alcides Escobar (KC)
I really have no idea who to take, and honestly I'm hoping a few of these guys go ahead of me to make my decision easier. I'd really like some MI depth, but of course there's my vacant 3B spot to think about. I have no idea.
Not much there. At this point 3b is a lost cause imo but you may want to grab Chipper before it gets really, really bad. You could look to Drew for MI, but he basically stinks so I would not bother. Buchholz probably has the most upside for an SP on that list...but you have no place to play him.
Your OF is weak.
I probably grab Chipper and then Buchholz and look to trade an SP for a hitter.
Gamel for your CI. He could easily makes your OF problems non existent. He will be needed and hitting between Braun and Aram sounds nice. Take Gamel and don't look back. For your 3b I'd draft Chipper with your next pick and grab a solid utility bat in the late rounds.
You have enough ptiching pass on Buccholz even though he does have some upside.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!

Johnson Altuve Gamel Buchholz
pretty much this but i think i'd go gamel over altuve.
