A few names slipped through the cracks. Do me a favor and throw a quick rank on these guys in a 10 team 5x5 H2H keeper. I have Sale/Bard if you think any of the listed are better than them as well. I have 1 open spot for sure.
Chacin Ogando Danks Cahill Worley Minor Vogelsong Hughes H. Alvarez Pomeranz Leake
Thanks for ranking or suggestions, and drop a link and I'll help.
I am not a Hughes fan and I tend to doubt he gets the 5th SP slot unless Garcia really stinks it up and Hughes has an awesome Spring. I could be wrong, but I do not think the Yanks signed Garcia to a 4 M contract to have him do mop up work in the pen.
Danks (takes the ball, 200k upside) Cahill (breakout 2010, but down 2011) Minor (excellent K/BB ratio, possible breakout year) Chacin (excellent GB rate, coors park effect) H. Alvarez (excellent, but small sample in 2011) Vogelsong (excellent 2011, 34 year old journeyman, homer-prone) Leake (make sure he starts, but can compete in deep leagues) Worley (excellent 2011 in PHI, but no track record of success) Hughes (playoff contending team, but limited success) Pomeranz (youngster (23), Rockies, not for this year or H2H) Ogando (RP for 2012 barring injury, not closer)
IMO, Danks is the established pitcher here. When he is on, he channels cy young. When he is not (the exception), it can be ugly (see 2011). But, if you are in a keeper, you must take Minor. Great potential, big league ready. Both heavy on Ks.
Yeah, not sure why people dislike Minor. He hasn't had a full season yet but has proven in his youth that he could be great. I would go with Danks, though. I think he'll be a good failsafe if and when Sale or Bard don't come to fruition this year. He's not that old either so he is a possible keeper candidate if he has a good year. Then I'd go with Minor, then Cahill. Chacin, Alvarez, Pomeranz follow with the last two being young keeper gambles.
Thanks for all the looks guys. Someone snapped up Chacin so it made my decision easy to grab Danks. I'm still unsure of which to take between Bard/Sale/Minor but no one else has hit the wire yet so I can make an early move on Minor as soon as someone on my team inevitably hits the DL.
Chacin is the best. I ha\/e him higher than Sale and Bard. But that's due to how many innings I ha\/e them at. I do like Minor this year, a lot of upside
