The Beer & Pretzels Keeper Points League begins its 9th season and is currently looking for new owner(s) to take over 1 existing team(s) in our 16-team league ASAP.
If you're looking for a good, new challenge w/ a different setup than usual, this might be right up your alley.
The league is a free, points league run on Yahoo and uses (sabermetrics-oriented) Extrapolated Runs for offense, which is similar to Bill James' original Runs Created, and a variation on IP - R for pitching, which is a basic take on runs prevention (w/ some bonuses/penalties for wins, losses, saves, holds, blown saves and such). This points system is designed to model more closely to real life results (unlike standard Roto and most other points leagues) and has proven to yield excellent, tight races w/ well balanced results for 8 straight seasons now (and one more in a non-keeper before that). Rules are generally kept as simple (and sensible and consistent) as possible.
We do not use salaries, but keepability status is simply based on real life contract/FA status, eg. Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, Jose Reyes, Jimmy Rollins, Yu Darvish, Aramis Ramirez, CJ Wilson, Carlos Beltran, et al. are all FAs this year (and you can find pretty much all the noteworthy veteran FAs listed at places like
the ESPN FA Tracker). And many top and/or MLB-ready prospects join the FA pool as they show up in Yahoo, eg. Anthony Rendon, Gerrit Cole, Dylan Bundy, Trevor Bauer, Bubba Starling, et al. are all in the FA pool to start this year.
We will begin our
relatively unique annual FA Draft process shortly. This process is designed to help teams w/ less talent get competitive much more quickly while also adding a bit more strategy to such drafts than usual -- basically, the less keeper worthy talent you have, the more risk you can take in the silent player drops first part to jockey into position for more early draft picks to nab as many top FAs (and dropped players) as possible.
Note that you may also find the points system and lineup positions can help teams rebuild and become competitive (again) more quickly since it depends less on certain traditional stats that tend to work against less proven players who may not bat in premium lineup spots or pitch on top teams.

Intro and Rules to the LeagueIf interested, fire me a PM or email or YIM me ASAP so you don't miss any part of our relatively unique FA Draft process.
You'll find the available team(s) at the following link labeled as needing new owner(s):
http://htfbaseball.proboards.com/index. ... rd=rostersCurrently, only the Frothy Walruses are available -- it could use a serious overhaul after much neglect from the previous MIA owner, but that's the kind of thing our relatively unique FA Draft process is great for, especially w/ Pujols, Fielder, Reyes, et al. plus a deep batch of top prospects available in this year's FA pool.
Again, please note that our league setup is a fair bit different from the usual, so don't judge the quality of players in the available team roster(s) w/out getting familiar w/ the setup and rules first. For instance, speed/SBs are nowhere near as important here as in standard ROTO leagues -- and we do not care about batting Rs and RBIs at all or pitching Ks (although those stats might provide helpful, indirect indicators of expected performance). And again, keepability is based on real life contract years and FA status, eg. Pujols, Fielder and Reyes are FA this year. And there are other nuances to consider as well, so please do check out the entire setup and rules...
Thanks for your interest...
