I am in a 10-team NL Only standard 5x5 auction league. Traditionally, offense goes for high dollar, while good SP can be had for fair prices. Unfortunately, I am again stuck with more pitching than hitting.
So now I have to pick two of the following: Aaron Hill $10 Cozart $6 Mesoraco $3 (please don't say him) Shelby Miller $3 (and his 3-year contract hasn't even technically started yet)
My initial stance was to freeze both Hill and Cozart because of what I know about draft inflation for the hitters. But Shelby is soooo tempting.

I was gonna go Cozart and Miller. But Hill is a good pick also. He's valued at $13 in our mixed league, so in NL only you have decent value. But I've been burned by Hill too many times (of course he wasn't in the NL)....
All that being said, let's go with Hill and Miller.
Yeah, I'm afraid he's not ready to hit in the bigs. With a guy like Ryan Hanigan there, Devin may only be starting every 3 out of 5 anyway. But if he struggles, I don't think the Reds would have any problem sending Devin back down and just let Hanigan start.
If I look at it in terms of how much it would cost to buy them back at auction, I think Hill would cost over $15. Last year Wigginton sold for $12 and Uribe sold for $15. I honestly don't have an idea how much Mesoraco would sell for.

Yeah, just hashing it out on this thread helped me. Now I'm even considering keeping Cozart over Shelby after looking at rosters and comparing who's being kept vs. what will be available. It's easily possibly that I could get Shelby in the endgame for $3.
Interesting about Mesoraco selling for $3 in a 12-teamer. That helps, thanks!

I like Mesoraco, but I agree with your fear the he will get "Dustied" and it will surely be frustrating when he is not playing 2-3 games a week. You would probably have to carry a second catcher to deal with his platoon.
I think Hill is a solid value here. He played very well when he came over to the NL last year and you can at least point to those big years he had in Toronto as hope that he can achieve great things. I think he's worth the keep.
I just looked at Cozart's minor league numbers. Yikes. In '09 he hit .234 in 463 AA at-bats. In 2010 he hit .216 in 553 AAA at-bats. Not sure if his .261 in 360 ML at-bats was improvement or fluke. Hmm.
