I'm in a 12 team 5x5 roto keeper league. We keep 15 players with salaries totaling $320. Salaries go up $5/year. We also have very limited pickups (8/year) so keepers and draft are important, especially for depth.
This is a standard draft, not auction. 1st round players get assigned a value of $17, 2nd $16, etc. then they get the $5 raise each year after.
I've decided on these 15 - Which total exactly $320.
C - M. Montero ($20) 1B - Konerko ($22) 2B - Pedroia ($35) 3B - Zimmerman ($31) SS - OF - Ellsbury ($35) OF - Hamilton ($27) OF - Jennings ($17) OF - Bourjos ($11) DH- Harper ($15) IF -
SP - Gio ($13) SP - CJ Wilson ($15) SP - Gallardo ($29) SP - Romero ($18) SP - RP - Putz ($20) RP - League ($12) RP - P-
I like loading up on bats and high K pitchers. I also like having a RP or 2 so I don't have to think about that early in the draft. With that said, should I keep any of these guys over the one's above?
Goldschmidt(1B, $15) - could put up good power numbers and some steals, but avg a concern. If I really want him I think I can get him in 3rd round or later, which means he would still be a $15 player for me.
Belt (1B, OF, $16) - great power prospect, but avg a concern along with playing time. Starting off well this spring. And to top it off, I'm a Giants fan. However I can't see him going real early in the draft and I hope to get him back.
Hellickson (SP, $14) - Top prospect going into last year, won AL ROY. Great ERA and WHIP but underlying stats say he was VERY lucky. Low K rate, but had great K rate in minors. Most pundents are calling for big pullback. Most likely will go early, but not sure he's worth the risk?
Nathan (RP, $15) - once elite and looked good in 2nd half last year. 38 with lower velocity. Great team, horrible park. Could put up 45 saves with great numbers or be a bust. Adams waiting behind him. so far looking good this spring. Will probably go in the 3rd -5th rounds, so reasonably priced. Would you rather have him over Putz?
Jansen (RP, $15) - Guerra is slated to start the season as closer, but everyone loves Jansen. Incredible K rate. If Guerra falters Jansen will pounce. If he doesn't, he'll vulture a few with great K's and solid ERA and WHIP. I think he will last until later in the draft unless he is declared the closer.

1) No on Goldie. I agree with your assessment. If you can redraft him, why keep him? I don't see him displacing anyone from your list.
2) Same as Goldie for Belt. You're a Giants fan and your opinion is probably more informed than me. Cut him.
3) Hellickson is a no go either. I agree with your assessment in that he was lucky last year. Low K rate, no improvement in the 2nd half, too much hype, let someone else take him.
4) Joe Nathan at $15 is not a risk I'd be willing to take. His age (37), injury history over the past two seasons (poor at best), and fly ball rate (now in Arlington) are all big red flags for me. He had a pretty good 2nd half in 2011, good K/9, good BB/9, better than the surface would indicate. But $15 is too much risk for me. I would much rather have Putz.
5) If Jansen had the closer role as of now, I'd say bump off Putz (League is better priced than Putz IMO). But as of today, Guerra is the closer. So keeping Jansen is a $15 speculation over someone already established in the closers role. I say pass.
I concur with what the first poster is saying, though I don't think the difference between Putz and Nathan is all that great. Temper my enthusiasm for Nathan with the fact that I am a Ranger fan and I trust Jon Daniels' judgement implicitly.
I think you've done a good job of setting up your team here. Stick with what you've got.
