AL-only dynasty questions

Postby silverZ » Mon Mar 05, 2012 12:17 pm

Hey guys,

6x6 scoring with OBP and IP. My questionable guys are bolded.

2B: Kinsler??? 38A
- he went for $38 last year after coming off an injury plagued season. No brainer to keep him for another year at the same price, right? Or do I throw him back, let someone else pay $40+ for him and go after a different big bat? :-?
MI: Kendrick 24A
OF: Granderson 27A
OF: Gentry??? 6A - Will he play enough, thus steal enough, to be worth $6?
OF: Cain 10A

P: Sabathia 33A
P: Pineda 17A
P: Moore 7*
P: Santos 8A
P: Sale 4B - Do I keep extend his contract for another year, making him 9Y, or let his contract run out this year to save $5? I don't see him being worth $9 this year, but should be worth $9 next year...
P: McCarthy 7A
P: Crow 1A
P: Harrison 6A
P: Balfour?? 10A - worth it if he is handed the job out of ST. last minute decision for me.

This leaves me with only $62 to spend on 8 players. $57 if I expend Sale...I'll grab one big bat, then a bunch of cheap guys to fill out my O. I'm also trying to trade Pineda for a young stud bat but haven't had any luck yet...

Big bats: Albert, Pedroia, Tex, Fielder, Crawford, Konerko, Gordon, Zobrist, Youk, Arod, Pena, Ram (SS), Jones, Lind, Wieters, Avila,
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!

Personally I wouldn't keep Kinsler at $39. I think he is only worth 30-32 tops. Throw him back.

Idk about Sale - I've seen a lot of different reports on him going between $10-12 for this year. I know that might be a little tough to choke down but even at $9 he is ok value imo.

Balfour - again another guy going for $10-12 and I would keep him.

i'd keep aaron crow for a buck over balfour. head into the auction with as much as possible. you have santos for 8 and he's a closer (I think...?)

There is no way Kinsler would go for less than $40 if I threw him back. There is a ton of inflation for elite players at auction due to the MiLB keepers. The only reason I would throw him back is if I planned on spending that $38 on Pedoria or someone instead. If I choose to go that way I should be able to trade Kinsler for something instead of just throwing him back.

Yea I'm keeping Crow as a no brainer. I don't like him that much but you can't go wrong for $1. I'm keeping all 9 pitchers I listed. The problem is I'm going to be pissed off if someone sneaks in a $1 pitcher at the end of the auction and I don't have the pitching spot open to bid them up to value. Santos is very strong value at that price, but I need a 2nd closer if I'm going to compete this year. If I throw Balfour back I'm probably going to spend $10+ on a guy like Reed.

I would throw Sale and Crow back, so you have spots for bargains at end.
If Balfour doesn't close, that's $10 gone.
I would just try for Reed or Pestano myself.

I agree with this.

Kinsler is a must keep 2B for an AL only league at that price. Only trade him if you get a good return and are confident you don't have to vastly overpay for someone else.

Gentry should be monitored. IF he wins the starting job (he is the leading candidate over Borbon right now), then he could provide excellent value at $6. He had 18 SB + 0 CS in under 200 AB. If he keeps his OBP in line with last year, he will provide a lot of steals and runs with Kinsler and Andrus batting behind him. Won't kill your AVG either. No HR/RBI though. I'd wait until Opening Day is closer to make a choice. If he doesn't get the starting role, that is $6 better spent elsewhere. And in the case of Gentry not starting, you can redraft him for $1.
