Did I win this deal? WHIR

Postby ILoveBush » Mon Mar 05, 2012 11:36 am

I had a Yahoo money draft yesterday afternoon. Team ended up like this:

Wieters, Hosmer, Espinosa, Bautista, Hanley, McCutchen, Bruce, Gardner, Butler, Jesus Montero, Bench of Moustakas, Fowler, Boesch

Greinke, Bumgarner, Zimmermann, Bauer, Minor, Jansen, Motte, Farnsworth, Pestano, Reed.

I came out of the draft knowing that after my top 3 SP, I was a little thin. Hours after the draft I was offered this deal:

Howie Kendrick
Josh Johnson

Debated the deal in my head for hours before accepting. I loved Bumgarner going into the draft, but I figured trading him for Kendrick is close to a wash in value. And trading Boesch for Johnson is a win. However, I now have a sick feeling that I've taken on too much risk with my SP.

Did I make the right decision to accept?
Should I now flip Josh Johnson for a healthier SP like Latos?
What should I do with Espinosa?

idk if you could say you "won". you moved down like 3 rounds for your SP and moved up 10 rounds on the hitting.

If you can flip Johnson for a solid SP now then I think you "won" the trade. But only getting someone of his value will work. So a Shields, Latos, Hanson, Moore.

I think Johnson is to high of a risk and until you flip him I dont consider this a win.

JJ has more upside over Bumgarner but he also comes with a lot more risk. Kendrick is a nice addition as well. It really depends on how risky you want to be. JJ could be a Cy Young winner or he could never pitch a full season again. I would probably lean towards keeping Bumgarner only because I don't want the worry that JJ will bring.

Id take as olid Kendrick for 2b if it were needed and run the risk w/ JJ and can easily replace him with weekly 2SP.

I like the Johnson side. I like both players better, though clearly JJ is a severe injury risk. If all players involved stay healthy, I easily like the Johnson side.
