No comprendo all the hype.I wouldn't take him off the WW as my last pitcher. :-S

I understand the concerns, but to not take him off waivers if given the chance is silly. The potential return is too great. Unless all your starters are top 30 guys, you'd be foolish not to gamble on him, imo...

On a 21 man roster in a 12 man league my 8th SP is Garza(blew off saves).I prefer him to an unproven volatile commodity.I'm sure the kid will have an awesome career, but he's not going to save anyones 2012 season.

I don't think anyone's rational expectation is that he's going to come in and pitch like Cy Young. Although, it wouldn't be the first time someone was called up and pitched like a stud. Weaver was mentioned earlier, and is an incredible example, although he was a mid-2 BB/9 guy whereas Bauer has yet to even crack the 4 BB/9 mark, which is definitely the biggest concern, and why I would definitely temper expectations for him, especially this season, and even next. I'd actually be a lot more excited if it were Skaggs coming up now for this season than Bauer. Maybe we see Bauer come up and put up a line similar to Lincecum's rookie campaign... 4.00 ERA, ~9K/9, 1.30 WHIP, 4.00 BB/9 with flashes of brilliance and other games where he just looks absolutely overmatched. He's worth a flyer because of his upside, though, for certain.

Also, Garza is not typically a team's 8th best starter. It's much different when the best player on waivers is Ricky Nolasco and you've got Matt Harrison and Dillon Gee in your rotation. K per inning talent with huge potential in the weakest division in baseball all of a sudden becomes pretty enticing.

Good pitching can get thin late in a 12 man league, that's why I loaded up in the mid rounds this year.I don't need volatility in September.

There will always be the hot bat of the week to jump on, but good steady SP's during the playoffs are gold IMO.

That's why I dumped Scherzer 3 starts ago(yes, before THAT game) and would do it again right now after seeing that my mid round flyer has broken, duct taped wings that are doomed to fail with that horrible,God awful defense and flaky managing backing him up.Put Max on a good team without a headcase loser manager and I'll draft him every year.
I'm much happier with the quality Sale gives me while knowing I'll lose him before the playoffs,I'd rather adjust than being tied down to a trainwreck.

I'm sure Bauer will be great in a few years.

If all the smart minor leaguers spit on his stuff why are they still trying to figure him out? Jim Callis said this kid is an extremely intellectual pitcher and its not necessarily his control but how HE wants to attack hitters. He doesnt like ground-balls and prefers fly-balls because they % of them to likely be an "out". There have been many successful FB pitchers and ones that walk players over 3 a game. I'm betting he's smart enough to adjust as he needs to in the bigs when the league catches up to him. I honestly dont know what to tell you if you dont "comprend" the hype either, please leave him on your WW for a shark to take.

I'm not arguing that he's got great stuff and I've read the interviews that indicate he's about twice as smart as me in general and at least 50 times more so when it comes to baseball. My point, which may have not come out quite right was just that his style doesn't fit into the 10x10 H2H league format that he is available to me. In 5x5 roto leagues where he has more value he appears to be pretty much gone.

I like the fact he had only 2 walks. I still think he will be a great commodity once called up just because of his high K/9. The dude knows how to get guys to swing and miss. And he's just sitting there in my 12 team league begging to be picked up lol
