Throw out Valverde and keep Arod you need a 3b and its so shallow but Hort nailed it other than that. I don't care if saves get horded. Kimbrel+2 low end closers in the draft will keep you afloat. Brett Myers was just named the closer in Houston he should come dirt cheap.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
Before I read any of the responses I thought you have to keep Hosmer long term. If you are worried about franchising two 1B, than do A Gonzo at 1 year and franchise Bruce, McCutchen and Hosmer. That is some serious talent/youth to build on.
So I'd say Franchise Hosmer, McCutchen & Bruce/Gonzalez 1 year keepers are Bruce/Gonzalez and A-Rod
Pitchers-Franchise Cain, CC, Hamels 1 year keepers- Kimbrel and Valverde

It's not 1 yr vs 2 yr though, it's 1 yr vs forever. My argument is in 2 or 3 years Hosmer will still be improving and Gonzalez will be on the decline.
I wouldn't worry for a long time. AGon is 29, and his last 3 years were his best. Hosmer while good, has never put up a AGon season. I will take AGon for the next 4-5 years, over a still somewhat unproven Hosmer.

I wont franchise hosmer over agonz.... I'm right near the top every year, and its a money league - competing now is paramount. Also, I think people tend to go ga-ga over these young guys....I'll take the sure thing every time. I do like hosmer -- but I'm really torn as to wether or not it makes any sense to keep 2 1b in a 10-team league. I really think hosmer will last several rounds into the draft anyways, not to mention forcing me to scramble at 2b/3b. That said -- there seems to be little love for arod and utley, and I sorta hate them myself, having made the mistake of franchising them both 1 year too many. Looking at the players who I think will be available, 3B looks deeper - beltre, wright, sandoval, lawrie, ramirez, youk will all most likely be in the draft (I pick 9th) so tossing arod seems wise. If both utley and arod are just done, I have no problem keeping hosmer for value - but I really like bruce over him as a franchiser....
Kimbrel VS. cain is my main debate in the pitchers. And for the poster who mentioned above -- we have to keep 5 of each, so dropping valverde for an extra bat isn't an option.
Can you change your mind come next season? As in franchise Hosmer and un-franchise Bruce or vice verse if over the season you change your mind..? Cause for you hitters it def comes down to Hosmer vs Bruce. Personally I like Bruce for 2012-2014 but I do expect Hosmer's upside to be a bit higher then Bruce's over the long haul. I just expect Bruce's production to peak slightly sooner then Hosmer's. Being that Bruce is 2 years older then Hosmer, 2 years sooner would be a safe guesstimate.
No - unfranchised guys go back into the following year's draft. Making it even less sensible to keep hosmer. Don't you guys think even konerko will have a more productive season then hosmer? In the end, thats all I care about.... If I don't keep hosmer as a franchise guy, it seems to make zero sense to keep him for just this year. Even if he's more valuable then arod and utley, the draft flexibility (and the fact I know my league -- big 'names' like arod and utley will likely go off the board before hosmer, to say nothing of position scarcity) alone might make keeping one of them more logical...
Thanks for all the help so far --- its basically the 1 big fantasy decision I struggle with each year...and keepers are due by tomorrow.
