More Likely? B. Myers Saves 20 Or J. Santana starts 20?

Postby Remotethumb » Tue Feb 28, 2012 5:30 pm

My last pick in my 12 team 5x5 H2H league.

I have my roster set. I can put 1 more on my bench. I have $3 left to spend.

I want either Brett Myers (new Astros closer) or Johan Santana for the upside.

Which is more likely to contribute off my bench? (We start 2 RPs, I only have Kimbrel, Guerra so far)

I'm good on SPs but can always use another, especially if you think Johan Santana may come back and pitch decent. Even if you think he will be average, let me know. Thanks.

since you can put myers in your SP spot that'll give you a leg up on everyone else who can only start two RP. i'd take him.

personally im leaning more towards the he will be fine part on coming back but on the same hand he hasn't pitchen in close to 17 months in the major.

in 5x5 h2h i usually try to stack for low era and whip and tend to go for higher end middle relievers and closers.

all that being said. I think Satana makes his 20 starts and does average with them and on the same idea i think myers also makes about 25 saves. but the h2h league make me pick myers.

I would go with Myers. Even if Santana approached 20 starts, I'm not sure you'd like them a whole lot with that Mets team. Myers should be able to stay healthy and likely hold onto the job. Guerra may not have the same fortune, though.

I'm pretty sure that you could replace Myers' 'value' during the season rather easily. I have seen some video on Johan's bullpen's so far and they look free and easy. I'm not sure what he's clocking at, but his body language looks good. I would go with Johan's upside here.

Thanks Element. That's the type of info I'm looking for. I appreciate it. Even if I get an average season from Santana, at $3 I only need an average season from him.

but Myers at $3 is also interesting...especially if I can use him for a trade later. Any closer at $3 pretty good. For comparison, Kimrel is $28, Axford $24, guys like Farnsworth are $13.

anyone else have an opinion?

Yeah ^ that. Atleast in my league, that SP-eligibility is gold. Pretty sure I'd go with myers here - seems a bit safer anyways, and the mets will be terrible.

Help with mine?
