Haren or Lester WHIR

Postby galante22 » Sat Feb 25, 2012 2:27 pm

14 team 5x5 scoring keeper league, where u can keep 5 players a max of 3 years. looking like my 1st pick is gonna come down to lester or haren...

Lester pitches in a tougher division but with the Red sox line up for run support he should be good for around 18 wins. hes also only 28 so hes in his prime now and would be for the next 3 years

3 year average: 16 w, 211 k's, 3.35 era, 1.22 whip

Harenwith pujols now in the lineup he should get some extra run support. factor in getting to face oakland and seattle not to mention houston when they move to the AL west. my concern is hes 31 so by the time im done keeping him hell be 34-35.

3 year average: 14 w, 210 k's, 3.41 era, 1.10 whip

so i guess my question is for the next 4 seasons (this year and the 3 i can keep him for) which pitcher would you rather have?

Haren and I don't think it's all that close.

Yeah...I would tend to go Haren in this case. I think he's in an easier conference with a few pitchers parks in the mix.

Haren by a long ways also.
Dominate is a verb. Dominant is an adjective.

Haren is one of the most rock solid SP options in fantasy. He always seems to go undervalued. He can pitch and is a great ace to anchor a staff.

Lester hasn't lived up to his potential IMO. He has the capability to outproduce Haren across the board, but this "breakout" may never come. For now, he is the lesser pitcher, but I think it is closer than some people have suggested.

so i guess my question is for the next 4 seasons (this year and the 3 i can keep him for) which pitcher would you rather have?

Because of this, I would go with Lester. Age is in Lester's favor and if he does have a breakthrough season, you'll be golden with him on your team during his prime years.

First....don't chase W's, at least not with top-level SP's. Draft based on skill.

I'd take Haren here, easily. After this season, if you are still worried about his age, then trade him.

Haren, and I wouldn't hesitate. Love him on the Angels in that division.
