Drop Pence for Gio??

Postby oldmanbean » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:57 am

A guy has Gio for trade, and since he is going to drop him anyway, he is not expecting much if anything. However, my budget would force me to drop Pence. I would have six solid pitchers starting the season, but now would have to pick up 2 OFs in the draft...

opinions?? Current keeps are happy faced

12 team points keeper league.
15 hitters, 10 pitchers.
1 point per TB, bb = 1, r = 1, rbi = 2, sb = 2, cs = -1
IP = 1, K = 1, W = 10, QS = 5, S = 5, BS = -5,L=-5,ER=-2,BB=-1
We start 1 at each position plus an EH. 6 pitchers, weeekly lineups

C N Hundley 9, Y Molina 4 ;-D
1B M Cabrera 28 ;-D , A Huff 14
2B K Johnson 11, T Nishioka 7
3B C Johnson 6, R Zimmerman 12 ;-D
SS E Andrus 9 ;-D , R Theriot 4
OF J Bautista 11 ;-D , J Francoeur 9, H Pence 14 ;-D , N Swisher 8
DH V Guerrero 17
P J Axford 9, B Beachy 6 ;-D , H Bell 8, Z Britton 9, J Hellickson 9, D Hudson 11 ;-D , C Lee 19 ;-D , B Morrow 7, A Wainwright 6 ;-D , J Zimmermann 10 ;-D

I'd rather have Pence. You seem pretty set at SP and your OF needs help.
Anyway you can get out of the 17 deal for Vlad?

No way, Pence for 14 is good value. What is Gio's price? Also, you're not keeping Morrow for 7?

Since they are the same price I'd take Pence by a mile. I would consider dropping Molina for Morrow. I think I'd take Morrow's upside over Molina's steady production. Axford for 9 seems like very good value too. I'm not sure how many points a closer would end up with in those setting though.

Molina is $4, so Morrow's $7 would put me over allowed budget. Currently I have 11 players, $130 which is the max for keepers.

Axford finished #7 among my pitchers, and his predictions also put him around #7 so not worth the $9

I think I would take Gio here. I know a lot of people think Gio will take a step back because he is leaving Oakland but his move to the NL should negate that. And with the Nats actually having an offense, which could give him more wins.

Plus this is a points league and generally points leagues are slanted towards pitchers. Your setup looks fairly similar to the ones I am in except more points for RBI and QS which could balance each other out. Last year in my league Gio out scored Pence by about 100 points which is a fair amount. I think you can find an OF to replace Pence in the draft.
