Fantasy Newb: First Roto Draft

Postby heimdal » Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:15 pm

Took a stab at it, picked 11/12

C Carlos Santana
1B Prince Fielder
2B Rickie Weeks
SS Jhonny Peralta
3B Evan Longoria
OF Ryan Braun
OF Carl Crawford
OF Nick Markakis
Util Jesus Montero
Util Adam Lind
BN A. de Aza
BN Yoenis Cespedes

SP Matt Cain
SP Josh Johnson
RP Jordan Walden
RP Neftali Feliz
P Tommy Hanson
P Ricky Romero
P Jeremy Hellickson
P Jim Johnson
BN Daniel Bard
BN Trevor Cahill
BN Henderson Alvarez

Took some risks with Braun and Johnson, pitching might be a weak point, saves especially.

Constructive comments are welcomed, I'm learning as I go on. Thanks :-D

i think you did well. and remember in fantasy baseball depending on the setup saves is only 1 of many categories, if you can do well in K which i think you will, you'll do well.

Hitting looks good, and yeah, you may have some pitching issues (health more than talent). My first item of business would probably be to try and trade Cespedes for some pitching help, maybe in a package. That guy is probably worth more right now based on pure hype then he ever will be during the season. You also may need to add some speed, but that can be had off the wire easily once the season starts.

Not a bad draft for your first go-round at all. ;-D

Not bad for a first timer. It isn't mind blowing but I've seen a LOT worse. I'm not sure how much Cespedes and Lind will help you this year, but they atleast have some potential, Cespedes more so.

I agree with you that you might be lacking a bit in saves, but you made one of the better mistakes you could make. Saves aren't that hard to find as the season goes on. Just keep up on the news and look for any potential closer changes. A lot of experienced managers don't believe paying a lot for saves, so you actually made a veteran move.

Overall, nice job

actually not to bad fora first timer. i never worry about saves during the draft. I mainly look at era, whip and K's. Wins and saves come and go.

find youself a nice little site with player news and stick with it, you never know when a team's closer will go down and someone else will have to step up.
