Its easiest to get a solid 1b. Give me the last year of Arod's superior 3b play and a stud OF in Grandy. But a lot on here will disagree for they feel like Arod is a distraction and injury waiting to drag a team down.
Its just easier to get a 1b than a 3b.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
I'd rather have the Adrian Gonzalez and Mark Reynolds side. Reynolds is a beast in R/HR/RBI, but a sinkhole in AVG. Adrian Gonzalez should hit around .300, and with Reynolds hitting .230, your averaging about .265 which can be made up for with a couple of other good AVG guys.
Granderson is going to regress some and will probably sink your AVG quite a bit too. Arod has a lot of concerns. High upside, but not the safest play.
I think you'll get a higher AVG + SB total from the Granderson/Arod side, but better R/HR/RBI on the Gonzalez/Reynolds side.
I would prefer the Gonzalez/Reynolds combo. It's said first baseman are easy to get, but it's no different in the outfield. There are plenty of guys at both positions. The comparison here is Rodriguez and Reynolds. Rodriguez continues to get hurt (I looked lat night, and I think the last time he played 140 games was 2007). Maybe with the DH freed up in 2012 he plays more, but we know Reynolds is a 30 HR threats with a bad average that can be fixed with a couple of other solid hitters.
I trust Gonzalez to repeat his performance more than Granderson, who has also had a few injury problems in his past.
Granderson and A-Rod by a decent margin for me. I actually like Granderson more than Agonz this year (though he's a bit more risky), and I like A-Rod by a considerable amount over Reynolds. A .230 average is just brutal.
You know what you are going to get with AGone and Reynolds. 1B might be easier to find in a draft but assuming this is a keeper league and you don't already have a stud 1B, then you probably won't get one without trading.
There is just way too much risk in Granderson and ARod. I think ARod might have a bounce back year but there are no numbers to back it up. On the flip side, I think Granderson takes a step back. His HR/FB ratio is unlikely to hold up which will cut down on his power. Granderson has had one stellar year and a bunch of above average years. So I don't know which one year is more likely to happen this time around.
So give me AGone and Reynolds. There isn't a ton of upside here but you do know what you are going to get and that is nice. AGone does have some upside, last year at this time he was coming into the season after shoulder surgery. That might have sapped some of his power so he very well could improve over last year.
