Pitcher dilema

Postby Katfish » Wed Mar 31, 2004 4:45 pm

My league kinda stinks because we only get 7 pitchers, plus 1 bench. We count W, L, K, ERA, WHIP, S, H. I figure to compete in all the cats, I will need 2 closers and 2 setup guys, leaving only 3 spots (plus bench) for SPs.

Here's the big dilema: I just picked up Herges so I could pad the Saves, but that means I have only 3 SPs until Nen gets back. Can I compete in all the other cats with these three SPs:

Schilling
Oswalt
Webb

As always, thank for the input.

You don't get a DL spot?

How many teams in the leauge?

If it's 10 or less I'd be inclined to just drop Nen and keep an extra starter figuring I could still find some saves on the waiver wire if Nen gets picked up and takes over for Herges at some point in the future.

It's a 14 team league. Here's my entire P staff

SP-Schilling
SP-Oswalt
P-Webb
RP-Rhodes
RP-T. Martin
P-Lidge
P-Guardaro
BNCH-Herges (dropped C. Lee)
DL-No one, yet

See I had to drop my fourth starter to try and get some extra saves. I just don't know if 3 will cut it, even for a short time.

T. Martin

T. Martin? What is that all about? I know your league counts holds, but come on. There's a ton of guys better than Martin for holds. How about some of the top set-up men? Are they ALL gone?

I disagree. If you compare Martin to Lidge (2003) he had a better ERA and WHIP and he had the same amount of holds. Also, he had a K per inning. And the fact that he only pitched 51 innings is great because we have a pitching limit, which means he got 28 holds while only eating 51 innings out of the limit.

As for anyone left, there's very little: 14 teams, 45 RPs taken. There's still these guys though:

Quantrill-only 44 strikeouts, plus improved bullpen meaning less chances

Weathers-Nice ERA, but 1.45 WHIP

Grimsly-5.16 ERA, 1.65 WHIP!

Anyone else is either in line to be a closer, which I don't need, or is worse than these guys.
