I love Derek Holland. He's just 100 innings or so away from reaching 500 career IP, which is my benchmark for determining when a pitcher 'clicks'. His pure stuff is obvious. He''ll lose his control from time to time, but really improved overall lowering his walk rate to down around 3. I'm slightly bullish on him for this season. I'm generally conservative with my projections, but I think that we're looking at a potential top 25 guy.
He is a nice young player. Very frustrating player the first couple years but last year it looked like he might have figured somethings out. Has the ability and just needs to show that he can do it for a full season. Worth keeping in leagues with lots of keepers or worth a mid to late round pick.
"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move."- Douglas Adams
Holland is a guy who could break out in 2012 and become a very solid pitcher. His 2011 season was good, especially the second half where he improved his K/9, BB/9, and allowed less HRs per IP. He has a few good pitches and keeps the ball on the ground enough to be able to have sustained success in Arlington.
