Utley and Montero for Santana and a pick?(WHIR)

14 team league, 3 keepers per year, 6x6 roto with OPS and Holds

I have been offered Carlos Santana and an 11th round pick(we are currently in the 9th round) for MY Utley and J. Montero. With my 11th pick I could pick up a MI that I need, esp after losing Utley or a solid SP like Chacin, Baker, Fister, Lewis, Ogando, McCarthy etc. Is Santana worth this?

I would do it. Santana is a proven quantity, while Montero is not. Utley does not impress me anymore, too many injuries.

I personally don't think that this deal really helps that much. Montero is a solid option. You'd be giving up two solid fantasy contributors. Your team looks better with these guys IMO. Would need to know who you'd have at 2B?

I'd have to pick up Beckham, Casilla, Infante, Roberts, Nunez, Hudson, Rodriguez at 2nd. I know, not great options. I am in talks of getting something like:

Utley, Montero, 2 picks for his Gio, Santana and 11th rounder and another pick. What do you think about that? Can I compete with the above guys at my MI an 2nd Base positions?

Tough call. I think I would stay with Utley and J. Montero. I think Santana is better than Montero is 2012, but I think they are even in 2013 and Montero has more long-term upside after that. I don't think Utley returns to his full glory days, but I think he is being undervalued for 2012. I don't think it's a matter of skill, just a matter of health. If he plays 150+ games, he could easily put up .280/90/20/90/15 or better. That's a lot of production from the 2B spot. That would be hard to replace. I think the drop off at 2B for you would be MORE than the gain you would get at C from Montero to Santana. Plus, your SP's are looking ok, so I don't think targeting SP in the 11th round is worth the trade.

ps - I don't like those options at 2B. I think that is why the other manager has been so aggressive trying to target Utley. He is trying to pick him up when his value is low and trying to avoid the other 2B options you listed.

Gio would definitely sweeten the deal. You could use the SP help. I like the mix of speed and power for a 6x6. Still don't like leaving the hole at 2B.

We are down to Utley and Montero for Santana and 11th rounder pick. Go for it and pick up Beckham, Nunez, or an arm? Or stay put?

I have a tough time believing your team is better with the weak middle; what did Santana hit last year 240? you've already got Reynolds holding you down there and your middles won't help that either. Unless its a clear win I say don't trade, I'm not even sure its a win at all.Keep Utley

Agree with this above. Stand pat with Utely and Montero. Tough to say that as I'm a really high on Santana, but the loss of production from Utely is too much to swallow. Can you get something else other than 11th round?
