3RD Year Keeper League and my players are getting older

Postby Elephant Riders » Fri Feb 10, 2012 10:53 pm

We get to keep 5 with no limits or position restrictions. I finished 4TH, partly because I made a dumb streaming move and Brett Myers screwed me again.

I'm 100% on Tulo and Josh Hamilton.

I have wavered about my final 3 picks since the end of last season. Utley, A-Rod, BJ Upton, and Matt Holliday. I traded during the season to get Utely, but I did have Espinosa for a little while. I'm a little hesitant to use up my OF picks within the first five rounds, but based on age and skill set, I think Upton and Holliday are 3/4.

That leaves my with A-Rod and Utley. I think that 2B is deeper than 3B and realistically I could have a shot at either of these 2 as my first pick. I'm leading towards A-Rod simply for the power numbers and DH availability. I feel like I can get a guy like Espinosa maybe Jemile Weeks or Ackley early. For the past few seasons I've drafted Beckham, and I'll tell you that experiment is over. My plan is also to draft a 3B a little later for a UTIL position, but the eventual replacement for A-Rod, Danny Valencia comes to mind.

I also want to throw out that I currently have control over Dan Haren and Gio Gonzalez. I like building offense first and I would have never considered Gio had he not moved to the AL.

Any input is appreciated.

Tulo
Hamilton
Holliday
Upton
Haren

not spectacular, but not a bad set of keepers by any stretch. arod and utley are getting old and injury prone, haren has too much value not to keep over them.

I'm leaning this way too, but I couldn't fault you for keeping A-Rod over Haren or Upton. 3B is crazy shallow this season and A-Rod may have one last hurrah.

Man, I hate agreeing with you all the time, lol. I read giantsfan's post and thought, "yeah, that looks good. Maybe A-Rod over Haren though." Then I scrolled down and saw yours, so now I REALLY have nothing to contribute.

This.

And I'm fine with Upton over Arod. Arod is a gamble who can pay off quite well, but the odds are stacked against him. Upton could improve even more this year at 27, especially if his 2nd half power holds.

Agreed. There is no way I would keep ARod or Utley over Upton. I think these are your easy top 5 and makes for a pretty good set of keepers.

I agree with the consensus except I would keep ARod over Upton. I have more faith in ARod having a solid season than Upton getting that BA up a notch that won't kill you.

I'd go with Utley for the last spot over ARod and Haren.
I'd probably choose ARod over Haren as well.

If Upton goes 25+ HR and 40+ SB, I think merits a .240ish AVG..
