Mar 30 The Associated Press reports San Francisco Giants RP Matt Herges will serve as the team's closer until CL Robb Nen (shoulder) is ready.
-Yahoo press clippings
Looks like those of us who took a flyer on him will have it pay off.
Anyone else ready to bet that Nen will be out for a solid length of time?

Cool, official confirmation is nice although most of us were assuming that I think. The Nen/Urbina status sure made drafting closers a bit curious this year. Some leagues I have Herges, one I have just Nen(puke) and one I have Urbina.
But yeah, Herges should be good and I hope Nen never comes back. Because even when he does, who knows how long he'll last...

I grabbed Herges in the 14th (way too early) so I hope he has the job all year. My worst pick of the draft could turn out to be my best pick of the draft in the longrun

14th round is pretty early, but Worrell would have been worth that last year. We'll see. I just picked him up a couple days ago in one league and took him in the 20th in my draft on Monday.
Do Herges. Down with Nen.

I'm betting he winds up with more saves than Nen. Astoundingly, at the end my auction, Nen was still the 5th highest salaried closer, proving that even in a league with guys who know what they are doing, all it takes is too idiots to bid up a guy who everyone knows should be going for a lot less. Meanwhile I picked up Herges for $3.
