Paul Hoynes' Twitter reports Acta says Pestano is the guy.

Rotoworld

Indians manager Manny Acta said Sunday that Vinnie Pestano will be his closer if Chris Perez isn't ready for the ninth inning at the start of the regular season.
Perez's (oblique) goal is to return by March 15 and be healthy for Opening Day. He was given a 4-6 week timetable, however, so it's reasonable to pessimistic about his optimism. We think Perez will likely start the season on the shelf, meaning Pestano will see save opportunities and hold mixed league value until the incumbent returns. Pestano, 27, posted a 2.32 ERA and 84/24 K/BB rate over 62 innings during his rookie campaign in 2011. Keep an eye on Perez's progress over the next month before deciding to spend a late-round pick on his replacement.

O/U on Perez's saves is about a dozen. Between injuries and terribleness I'll take the under.

Yeah the injury stinks. Pestano made a great sleeper when Perez was healthy since he was likely to end up with the job anyway. Now you'll have to actually pay for him.

what are people's thoughts on walden? i know they don't have better options and it could've been just my bad timing, but it seemed like everytime i watched this guy close, he was blowing a save. is he a legit closer?

He has control issues which could be due to that wonky delivery where he jumps and twists his ankle mid-stride. But he throws gas and misses bats. Luckily he doesn't have much competition but the Angels have spent a ton of money. They probably won't mess around with him for too long if he continues the way he finished last season, giving up base runners pretty much every outing.

Something else to consider was that Walden is quite young and was fairly new to pitching in relief as he was a converted starter. I expect him to improve overall with some bumps along along the way.

per rotoworld:
"Astros manager Brad Mills announced Tuesday that Brett Myers will be the team's closer in 2012.
Brandon Lyon has been demoted to a setup role. It's an odd decision given that Myers was one of Houston's most durable and reliable starters in 2011, but the Astros are an organization that needs to get younger all around and this should clear a rotation spot for an arm with upside (like 21-year-old Jordan Lyles). Myers, 31, had a 4.46 ERA and 160/57 K/BB ratio in 216 innings last year. The Astros have reworked his $10 million vesting option for 2012 to accommodate the position change."

Wow, Brett Myers. Yeah, he's done it before in Philly, but he struggles to keep his ERA under 4 and his WHIP under 1.3. Those are not good closer skills, especially with a "meh" K-rate.
