And people make fun of me when I say football teams bringing in stud QBs for tryouts/interviews messes with the starter's mind...it sounded like Sale was disappointed with being changed to a reliever. It's good to know that his elbow is structurally fine, hopefully he doesn't crap the bed upon returning to the rotation. I can understand being cautious with him, but why you would change him to a reliever because of elbow soreness is beyond my understanding.
I hate this White Sox situation. split between 3 guys, ugh. I would have to imagine the pecking order right now is Reed, Thornton, Santiago. Thornton and Santiago are both left handed.
looking up fangraps.com on Hector Santiago. he has a really high .400 BABIP. the 4.09 BB/9 is bad, but h does have a 12.27 K/9. is this number right? 100% LOB %. that's what it says. so he hasn't allowed any runners on base to score? do HR not count against that? Santiago also has a high 26.3 HR/FB % along with 54.3 FB%. so maybe he's not as bad as his numbers might suggest.
"Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura indicated Friday, May 11, that RPs Addison Reed, Hector Santiago and Matt Thornton might be used in a three-way closer situation. The situation will likely dictate who Ventura turns to. "Addison's done well, so you probably look for him if they have a bunch of righties coming up," Ventura said. "You probably look for Matty if they have a bunch of lefties coming up. If it's a mix, we'll probably have Hector."

Which makes perfect sense, since Reed has a .258 OBPa in his career against 31 lefties and a .275 OBPa in his career against 40 righties. "If it's a mix, we'll probably have" the guy that we removed from the closer role already for his inability to get anyone out. Reed and Santiago have a similar OPSa for lefties in their respective careers, but Reed's OPS against righties is about 340 points lower.
Reed's the closer, Robbie. Everyone knows it but you.
Now that the Jonathan Broxton experiment has worked and the Royals it would seem to have no need for a closer this year, what are the odds a team like the Red Sox will start pursuing a guy like Broxton aggressively right now? Where's he going to end up?

I don't think the Red Sox will bite after their Gagne and Jenks experiments...Yanks have arguably two guys better than Broxton...I really don't think Brox will catch on anywhere else
Maybe the Cardinals if there was an injury to Motte..maybe the Mets if they stay in contention long enough
Why don't they just get a house that's already painted?
If I were to speculate on guys that are going to be moved before the deadline I think it will be Myers and Street provided Street comes back and returns to form. I think the Yankees are happy with their 1-2 but who knows where the Sox will be in July.
Andrew Bailey is coming back at some point for the Red Sox. I haven't been following lately, but last I read I think it was what late June/early July? if he's healthy he would be someone solid for them.

I wouldn't say that. Most of closers are just a couple of meltdowns away from losing their job for good. Only Papelbon and Heath Bell stand out as exceptions. They'd only lose their job temporarily. Actually Bell just did.
So everything can change in a week. The Broxton experiment works now, but it's still May. Let's wait with your statement 'til September.
