Who has more value as a fantasy RP at this point Walden or Frieri? I hate to cut Walden with him before the season being a great younger closer on one of the best teams in baseball.. But obviously a lot has changed in LAA from the start of the year.

I would keep Walden if possible as I think he could get his job back as he much more upside than Downs.

who's next in Minnesota after Capps?
haven't been following them, but last I heard it would be Glen Perkins. but his numbers aren't that impressive. but is he still the next guy?

for what it's worth he has many seasons of closing experience in the minors.
http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/ ... ale-Thayer
minor league totals- 10 years, 2.45 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 173 saves.
then again shouldn't it mean something that he didn't first reach the majors until he was 28 years old.

He was not good for the Rays when he got a shot in the bigs though. Many Rays fans hoped he would help put because of the experience in the minors, but he seems to be a good AAA player and not an MLB player. Maybe he can turn it around in SD, but I wouldn't bet on it

Cashner has problems with control and the long ball as previously stated.
Gregerson has not been healthy this season (back spasms) and has not pitched well of late.
Thayer's numbers look good so far but an extremely small sample size and he's not a veteran.

That's not an inspiring bunch to choose from.

I'm liking Thayer the most out of the three (and I had the opportunity to add Cashner and passed).

3.11 K/BB in 576 minor league innings.
18/1 K/BB in 30 major league innings.
In 14 innings of NL ball ('11 + '12): 2.51 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 8 K, 0 BB, 13 H

I know the sample size is small, but he's definitely got the best control out of the three. He's also far less HR prone.

Cashner pitching in the top of the 8th in a tied game...and struggling

Do we draw any conclusions from his use in the 8th rather than the top of the 9th as closer are normally used in tied games?

In fairness, it's a single and SB by Reyes, bunt single and SB by Bonifacio, and intentional walk so far.

I made a bet in 2003 that the Devil Rays would win the 2008 World Series. Oh so close.

Until he walked in the lead run...

I'd go Dolis there.
