5th Keeper Help

Postby BALCO All-Stars » Wed Feb 08, 2012 4:10 pm

14 team, 5x5 roto. C/1B/2B/3B/SS/OF/OF/OF/U/2 SP/2 RP/3 P/6 or 7 BN (I forget)

Lost V-mart to injury, and also have Ryan Howard not playing until at least May (good offseason so far). Current top choices:

Pedroia
Holliday
Hamels
Rollins
Howard
Uggla
Aramis
Ian Kennedy (yes, it's a thin list).

Pedroia, Holliday, and Hamels are lock. I figured I'd have V-Mart and Howard as locks, but not so much after the injuries. I'm currently figuring Rollins as my #4, and am still leaning towards Howard as my #5, but am curious as to if I should keep Uggla instead of Howard. Nervous about a lost year this year with Howard, and will he go back to the 40/120/100/.270 years or stay at the 30/100/85/.250 range after this injury?

Again, am probably keeping Howard, but thoughts?

Tough spot. It would be folly to count on Howard returning to his 40+ HR days, and who knows when he's coming back. Still, with that list, your best option might be to keep him and cross your fingers. I'd say Uggla, but you're keeping Pedroia already and you don't play a MI spot.

I think I'd go Howard/Aramis as your 4th/5th keepers. Rollins just doesn't do it for me at SS, and 3B is almost as thin.

Aramis and Uggla. Possibly Kennedy over Uggla if you want a SP.

I don't get keeping Uggla. Where is he going to play? UTL? That kind of defeats the whole point of Uggla, which is getting 30 HR out of your 2B spot.

Or 30 HR from your Util spot. Doesn't matter where you get the stats, as long as you get them.

Howard is going to miss at least a month, and who knows what he'll do when he gets back.
Personally not a fan of Rollins going forward. I think you can get the same production later in the draft.
I could see Kennedy being kept, but having Hamels is a good start in the rotation. I would also prefer to keep bats all things being equal.

It also opens up the potential for trading partners for someone who is desperate for a 2B. If not, 30+ HR out of Util spot is pretty good.

This is my thinking of Uggla. 2B isn't exactly a deep position, so having two of the top 4 or 5 2B could help with addressing other needs. Not that I'm the biggest fan of Uggla either, but it's all about value.

Love the posts gents, keep 'em coming please.
