I like it for the Orioles. Hammel has some upside at least and probably has more trade value if he pitches well. Lindstrom probably has some trade value mid season too.
Yeah, not much to see, really. Guthrie's gone by the end of this year anyway, and certainly not any part of any Oriole team that will contend in the future. Neither are Hammel and Lindstrom, really, but Hammel's a few years younger and under control longer. So, you have more time to try to spin him into something worth more.
The really important acquisitions were adding Casey Fossum and Jeff Larish last week. Look out, AL East. Life as an O's fan.

I like the comments about trading Guthrie for prospects at fangraphs. Really? What kind of prospects are you getting for guthrie and his 8.2M contract?
You'll notice that Hammel/Lindstrom make the same amount and that is why the deal got done. the O's got a piece of rotation filler for 2 yrs (instead of guthrie's one) to use while their young pitcher maybe develop. And they got a decent bullpen piece for an awful bullpen. This trade isn't anything to brag about however since there is a lot of not cheap mediocrity being traded around.
Guthrie wrote on Twitter that Nick Swisher's batting average is one of the 'losers' of the trade. Swisher has a .448 average in 29 career plate appearances against Guthrie.
