In Search of the Elusive 'Pitching Prospect'

Postby bigh0rt » Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:58 pm

Something for us to all keep in mind as we approach our drafts, keeper declarations, auctions, so on and so forth...
Like many before him, Edwin Jackson was supposed to rack up awards on the way to Cooperstown. So what happened to all these arms?
Why do these disappointments keep happening again and again? How do some of the greatest raw talents God or Allah or Flying Spaghetti Monster ever put on Earth keep coming up short?

This year, you'd certainly think so. I understand the way the guy looked last September and in the playoffs, but I think the Cafe as a whole has gotten a little (see: potentially wayyyy) too high on the young man. Some of the players I see him being kept over may leave owners pret-ty angry about who they sent back to the player pool. :-°

why would they use Edwin Jackson as an example of a failed pitching prospect? He's no ace but Jackson has developed into a very serviceable #3 started who has helped his teams reach the world series twice. I wouldn't call that a bust. There has to be better examples out there, Homer Bailey? Andrew Miller?
