Lou Piniella announced today that Rocco Baldelli will start in center and Carl Crawford will start in left field on opening day.
In his announcment Piniella said "their attitude and approach convinced me they were ready to be part of a team that is building for the future." This decision keeps with the latest organazational philosophy of giving the young players a chance, even if they have rough times.
"We want to grow with our young kids as much as possible" Piniella said, "and they are a big part of our future."
A similar decision should be made regarding pitching with 22 year olds Seth McClung and Dewon Brazelton.
