14 team h2h standard 5x5 scoring league. can keep 5 players for a max of 3 years and one futures...my friend is looking to make a trade but idk if he should...
his keepers as of now are
1b)Hosmer(future)
ss)Asdrubal (no years kept)
of)Desmond jennings (no years kept)
sp)kershaw(no years kept)
sp)sheilds(no years kept)
sp)carpenter(no years kept)
after the trade hed have 6 guys and have to keep 5(minus future obviously)
c)mauer
1b)hosmer(future)
ss)asdrubal
of)desmond jennings
of)mike stanton(no years)
sp)shields
sp)gio gonzalez(no years)
basically hes getting kershaw who he can keep for 3 years for mauer who he can keep for 2, stanton for 3 and gio gonzalez for 3 if he choose to keep them that long. i just think kershaw is a top 5 sp who can be kept for 3 years. idk the upgrade of stanton and mauer over carp and jennings is enough to make up for the drop from kershaw to gio....opinions

I go with the Kershaw side and look make up the power production in the draft. Mauer is a variable, but Stanton is legit.

I like Stanton but I would not want Mauer. Does he have any other options?
I think Kershaw for Stanton is a good base.

Gio is an upgrade over Carpenter while he loses a pretty good amount going from Kershaw to Stanton. But Stanton could be a top 20 player this time next year and hitters are more predictable year to year than pitchers are.
Not sure what this other deal is but if he only gets Votto for 1 year, I would rather have the deal where he gets Stanton.
Agreed. Though I think Stanton and Kershaw are going to become closer in value as those three years progress. Wouldn't shock me to see Stanton overtake Kershaw at some point too. Kershaw is the better player now, but he is going to be hard pressed to outperform (or even repeat) his 2011 season. Stanton should continue to get better and if he doesn't he is still a top 20-40 player. Adding Gio Gonzalez for three years is nice too. He has some good upside, especially in 2013-2014 when the National's hitting really takes a step forward. And Mauer for one year isn't bad either. Maybe he stays healthy and returns to elite status (wouldn't bet on it though).
