Anyone else have an opinion? I have to have my keepers in by tonight. Should I keep Miggy? I think I have to keep McCutchen, Pence, Hosmer, Maybin, Lee,Price, Hanranhan, Jansen, Norris possibly. Who should I keep? Thanks and leave your links.
These funky auctions always give me more trouble than they should... with a $300 cap instead of $260, everything slides upward accordingly, but $1 are still $1, so the top end gets a little more buffer, for me at least.
I don't know if last year's prices are an anomoly, but if they aren't, then Miggy will demand in the neighborhood of $55 again, and if that's the case, there's no reason to not keep him. Janson being kept is dependent on him being a closer, which, to be completely honest, I have no idea about. I'd also consider Joyce at $4.
Thanks BigHort. If I kept who you suggested that would be 9 players worth $218, so I would have $82 to spend on 14 players. Miggy is definitely the big question because I kinda think he would go for lower than 55 bucks this year since it was apparent last year that pitching wins championships in this league. But, I agree I should probably keep him as he may be fantasy's number one bat.
I have come up with 3 scenarios of keepers, one I agree with you BigHort, I just might add Maybin to make it $222 for 10 players leaving me with $78 for 13 players which is still an avg of 6 bucks a player.
Average $ per player isn't a good way to look at things. Look at those keeper scenarios, plug them into your actual starting lineup, presume $1 per reserve player, and then see what you've got left to spend to actually fill your lineup.
So that's 220 bucks for 10 out of 23 players. I will just have to get young cheap MI and 3B and stack up my pitching staff with solid arms. I think this gives me a nice start. Any opinions?
Guys who I think are very good values and should be 100% keepers-
McCutchen-$34 - Great price Hart-$14 - Great bargain Hosmer-$5 - Extremely good Maybin-$5 - Lots of upside here Hanranhan-$10 - Good cost for a good closer Norris-$6 - At $6 I would take him, could have a big payoff
Here are the other guys that I would consider keeping-
Pence-$21 - Decent value which should be lived up to Price-$37 - Cost looks decent and I like his odds of improving in 2012 Jansen-$4 - $4 is reasonable if he posts insane K numbers and doesn't close. $4 is awesome if he ends up closing with 25-30 saves.
I would probably cut loose Miggy, unless you don't think you can get him back. $55 seems like a lot of salary, but isn't too crazy. I would probably throw back Lee at $47. That is too expensive IMO. I'm up for paying hitters 100% (or overpaying based on inflation), but I think SP can usually be drafted at bargains compared to hitters. That $47 could probably be used somewhere else. And if not, hard to see Lee going for this again.
6 hitters @ $134 4 pitchers @57 Leaves you $109 for 13 players, AVG of $8.4/draftee. Amazingly value-friendly to allow more streaming and fantastic values in this year's draft

I agree with you guys but just have one more question....MOST of the elite SP are going to be kept so shouldn't I keep Lee even though he is overpriced at this point?

If you think he won't go for less in the draft, then yes keep Lee at $47.
You're saving a decent amount of $$ with the rest of your guys.
I think he will probably go for less in the draft seeing that Verlander and Kershaw went for about 35 dollars each last year and are worth 38 this year and are both being kept. So you can either think that Lee will cost a lot because he will be the only elite pitcher not kept or things might come back down to earth as people in the league know that quantity of solid pitchers pretty much outweighs quality of just a few pitchers, if you get my drift. Any thoughts?
