# 1 Pick

Postby U*S*A*F » Mon Jan 30, 2012 11:54 am

I have the # 1 overall pick in an full keeper AL only league. I am currently shopping the pick but if I had to choose it would be between Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder. Either one would be a good choice but what about 5 to 6 years from now? Prince is younger albeit defensively challenged while Albert is a beast. Thoughts? Whom should I choose?

I would probably go with Miggy over Pujols and definitely Miggy over Fielder.

Miggy is already part of a team. The draft is basically NL to AL free agents, 2011 MLB draft picks, players making a name for themselves last year and bench fodder.

I think Pujols is going to put up better numbers in the long run, and would take him over Fielder.

That makes more sense, I was wondering why Fielder even came into the conversation for a #1 pick. :)

I would go with Pujols.

Pujols would be my choice. But if you are thinking 5-6 years from now, then I don't think either one will be that good. Pujols is already 32 so 6 years from now he will be 38 and it would be pretty amazing if he was still this productive at 38. Fielder is younger but I expect a quicker decline after he turns 30 so I could see them both being similar value 5-6 years from now.

If you are really looking that for down the road, then you need to make a trade. Either draft and figure out a trade or deal one now. Deals before the draft tend to be hard to pull off so your best bet might be to wait until after.

Well, if you don't need Pujols, even for a few years of great statistics, because you're worried about age, then you better get a ton back for that pick. Others will definitely want Pujols, so if you don't get at least a player/pick or two high picks, then you're selling yourself short. Not too many people are worth that number one overall spot, so make sure you are confident in your decision to skip on Pujols for youth.
