How's my team shaping up?

Postby chargerss24 » Thu Jan 26, 2012 11:25 am

I'm in a 12-team keeper league (standard stat + Holds/OBP). We have a $26 cap to spend on 23 players, 14 bats and 9 arms. My team isn't quite set in stone yet, but here's how it's looking:

C - Devin Meseroco, Jonathan Lucroy
1B - Eric Hosmer
2B - Dustin Pedroia
SS - Starling Castro
3B - Evan Longoria
MI - Zack Cozart
CI - Brett Lawrie
OF - Carlos Gonzalez, Justin Upton, Jason Heyward
U - Desmond Jennings, Yonder Alonso, Mike Trout

SP - Cole Hamels, Zack Greinke, David Price, Jordan Zimmerman, Drew Pomeranz
RP - Joe Nathan, Eduardo Sanchez, Ardolis Chapman, Chris Sale

Minors - Shelby Miller, Matt Moore

How's my team shaping up? I'm pretty tight on my budget, have .50 to spend on four open slots in the auction. Any weaknesses anyone can see that I may need to shore up? I do have Justin Verlander on my bench to move in a trade. Any thoughts on how my team looks will be great. WHIR as always! ;-D

Bolded indicates recent additions, now at a full starting lineup, right at the $26 budget.

This is a ridiculously good 12-team roster. My advice: spend the entirety of your last $0.50 on the most upside possible. You've got rock solid players and trade chips galore. Aim high and maybe you come out feasting, cause even if you famine you've still got an A+ squad.

Yeah I agree with hort. That is a pretty darn good team you have there. Only minor suggestion would be to draft a closer if possible? Say $0.10 on Brandon Lyon or something.

What's your guy's thoughts on Ryan Howard this year? I have a pretty good chance in trading for him, I got one big trade chip left without touching my current roster posted above. Currently, keeping Howard would only cost a dime, there's a lot of upside there in Howard for next-to-nothing prices.

Depends who the trade chip is, but getting Ryan Howard for 4-5 months at $0.10 is an extremely good play IMO.

I just updated my team in my original post as I added chapman, trout and Lucroy to my team. How's it looking now? WHIR as always!

I would say you need a better middle infielder. I'm not a fan of Cozart, mayself. You have some OF depth and a good 1B in Hosmer, so maybe trading Alonso could fill the void.

i think you've got most of the cats well covered. great hitters, great starters. i don't like your pen. i am assuming verlander is too expensive to keep, that is why he is a trade chip?

i don't think nathan well do well in texas, i don't think chapman will find a useful role this season in cin, and i think sanchez will continue to have arm issues. i love sale, but of course he is a starter now.

i'd invest in a low-cost closer through trade, and pick up a couple cheap closers in waiting at auction.
